There is enough for a couple more to wear the Disney tiara!
There are some requirements that Official Disney Princesses have to meet. They have to look to be human, be married or be born into royalty, and/or do something heroic in their movie. The ideal candidates include Cinderella, Mulan, Tiana, and Moana.
But occasionally, despite receiving the crown or being hailed as heroes, well-known Disney characters are denied the title. Even for characters such as Dot and Anna who grow to be princesses within their movie, they weren’t recognized as Official Disney Princesses.
Dot – A Bug’s Life
Dot is the younger sister of Princess Atta, the ant in A Bug’s Life who is preparing to ascend to the throne and become queen. After Atta receives the title of queen at the final moment of the movie, Dot is crowned princess,
Dot, however, would never be able to become an official Disney Princess since she is an ant instead of a human, regardless of her role as a princess in the movie. However, her bravery in fending off the wicked grasshoppers that stand in her way and aiding Flik in saving their colony should be recognized as a heroic deed deserving of Official Princess rank.
Nani – Lilo And Stitch
Although neither David nor Nani are royal by birth, Nani’s noble actions throughout Lilo and Stitch should place her high enough on the heroic scale to qualify as a princess.
Nani not only battled off multiple aliens in an effort to prevent Lilo from being unintentionally transported into space, but she also took responsibility for her younger sibling after their mom and dad passed away and battled to protect her when Cobra Bubbles tried to kidnap Lilo.
Megara – Hercules
Megara, who prefers to be the protagonist of her own tale, never expresses her feelings for Hercules, title character, during the entire movie.
If Meg’s many brave acts alone can’t earn her the title of princess, then her predestined union with Hercules, a member of Greece’s royal family, would.
Esmeralda – The Hunchback Of Notre Dame
Esmeralda was originally regarded as an Official Disney Princess, despite the fact that she neither acted heroically nor was she a princess in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
When the project started in the early 2000s, Esmeralda was crowned princesses among Snow White, Aurora, and Ariel in the squad. Esmeralda and Tinker Bell, however, were dropped from the official list in 2005 as a result of poor marketing and her adult portrayal.
Princess Melody – The Little Mermaid II: Return To The Sea
The Little Mermaid: Return to the Sea, the 2000 direct-to-video follow-up to The Little Mermaid, initially brings up Princess Melody, the juvenile offspring of Ariel and Eric.
Melody meets all the requirements to be an official princess: she has a human outlook, is a member of the royal family, and emulates her mother’s heroic deeds. However, the fact that she just appears in a follow up clearly disqualifies her from entering the line-up.
Princess Leia – Stars Wars
Princess Leia is the most deserved of all the figures who are not included in the line-up of Official Disney Princesses. She does not only act as a literal princess but also accomplishes many brave feats throughout Star Wars, such as assisting in the destruction of the Death Star.
However, the fact that Leia wasn’t a Disney character at the outset is the sole reason that she isn’t regarded as an Official Disney Princess. She didn’t become a member of Disney until they acquired Lucasfilm’s rights in 2012.
Jane – Tarzan
Jane isn’t regarded as an Official Disney Princess in spite of all of the heroic deeds she performs in Tarzan, including befriending the titular character, instructing him in human life, and assisting him in rescuing the gorilla pack.
Jane once made it up to the squad but has since been removed for unspecified causes, one of which may be because she isn’t born into royalty. The hypothesis that Tarzan is brother to Anna and Elsa must be accepted as canon in order for both Anna and him to be placed back on the official line-up.
Giselle – Enchanted
Throughout the animated/live-action movie Enchanted from 2007, Amy Adams portrayed Giselle, a princess who sang with animals and yearned to meet Prince Charming.
Despite being born royal, brave, and human—all characteristics that define an Official Disney Princess, Giselle had one drawback, which is being totally human. It’s the sole reason that she was discarded from the list of princesses as it was challenging for the studio to acquire the lifelong rights to Adam’s face.
Alice – Alice In Wonderland
The only other figure even vaguely deserving of consideration is Alice from Alice in Wonderland, who doesn’t appear on the squad of Official Disney Princesses.
Despite not technically fitting any princess requirements, Alice is frequently welcomed as an “honorary princess” and joins her princess pals. She’s a human of no royalty, who doesn’t engage in any notable acts of bravery during the movie, yet she’s frequently mistaken for a real Disney Princess due to her similarity to the title.
Anna – Frozen
The hardest of the group are Frozen‘s Anna and Elsa. Regardless of being human, exhibiting many acts of bravery, and their regal title (Elsa becomes Queen and Anna becomes Princess), the two do not qualify for inclusion on the final line-up.
While Elsa is constrained by her position as queen, several hypotheses have circulated as to why Anna doesn’t advance despite being a real-life Disney princess. Even though she has an animal sidekick named Sven, she is human, a member of royalty, a hero, and even breaks the most absurd Disney Princess standards. Her exclusion from the list may be due to her royal sibling’s incapacity to qualify.
