He Called The Delivery Guy “Four-Eyed Tw*t” And Demanded He Open The Door… So He Did

Some people just don’t know when to stop shouting. A delivery driver was finishing his oil route on a narrow country road when an irate motorist started honking and swearing for him to move. Moments later, the man was pounding on his truck, screaming through the window, and waving a tire iron.

When he demanded, “Open this f**king door!” the driver obliged with his boot. The door flew open, sending the man straight into a freezing ditch. No police call, no complaint, just one silent victory for patience, timing, and perfect malicious compliance.

A heating oil delivery driver was blocking a narrow country road as part of his normal work routine when a furious motorist decided civility wasn’t an option

'“Open this f**king door you four-eyed tw*t!!”.....okey-dokey!?'

I deliver home heating oil in a very rural and mostly flat part of the UK.

In my delivery area there are many large drainage channels or “dykes” in the local lingo.

The roads are often very narrow and single track and frequently run alongside these dykes separated only by a narrow grass verge. No safety barrier.

Anyhoo, this one day in the depths of winter it was below freezing,

there had been a light spattering of snow and there was a thin scum of ice on the water in the d__e.

I had just finished doing a customers delivery and was winding in the hose prior to collecting payment and departing.

My truck was completely blocking the road as there was nowhere for me to pull it off the road.

We are limited by the length of delivery hose, blocking the road is common and legally acceptable as long as we work quickly and safely.

So...... I was just waiting for the customer to finish writing the cheque for their oil when this large Mercedes car pulls up behind my truck

and the driver immediately starts leaning on the horn and shouting and swearing

and shouting at me to ‘move that f**king truck out of the way, NOW!’

My usual response when faced with similar behaviour is to blank the swearer and pretend they don’t exist.

Being 6’3” and 285lbs helps keep most people at bay!

I ignored Mr Shouty man and finished up with my customer.

The customer said to me “Ignore him, he’s well known in the village for being a bit of a d__k!” I said Goodbye and got into my truck.

As I was putting away my paperwork prior to driving off, I happened to glance on the drivers side mirror ( the same side of the truck as the d__e)

and saw Mr Shouty Man storming up the side of the truck with a tyre iron in his hand!

“Oh S__t! “ thinks I and immediately hit the central locking button locking myself in the cab.

Next thing I know Mr Shouty Man has climbed up onto the step, is hanging off the mirror arm with one hand

and brandishing the tyre iron with the other all the while shouting “Open this door you four-eyed c**t!!”

(I wear spectacles for driving! Oh the wit of the man! Lol). Cue Malicious compliance... He told me to open the door...

So I did........but, as I did so I kicked it open. He lost his grip on the mirror arm

and was flung backwards into the d__e up to his chest in freezing cold, filthy water!

I calmly started my engine and drive off! As I left I looked in the mirror

to see this guy floundering around chest deep in the icy water, dressed in a business suit!

I called the customer who had witnessed everything and happily they said that

they would give a statement to whoever needed one confirming I acted in self defence.

Then I made a fairly difficult call to my boss and told him what had happened and he said ‘I’ll await his call with interest!’ No bollocking, nothing!

When I got back to the yard that evening I asked my boss what had happened,

and apparently, no call of complaint was made that day or ever!

That is my story, please be gentle. TL;DR Got threatened by violent motorist. Obeyed his instruction which caused him to fall into freezing water.

Sometimes, malicious compliance stories read like parables about boundaries, and this one delivers that lesson with a splash.

The oil delivery driver’s decision to lock the cab, then literally “open the door” when commanded, illustrates a principle that occupational psychologists call situational assertiveness: responding within the rules but refusing to surrender control.

What began as a classic episode of rural road rage transformed into a live demonstration of consequence meeting entitlement.

Aggression toward delivery workers is not rare. A 2021 report by the UK’s Health and Safety Executive found that one in four drivers in public-facing roles experience verbal abuse or threats yearly, and a smaller but concerning fraction report physical intimidation.

The power imbalance is often reversed in such incidents; an irate motorist assumes dominance until the worker asserts lawful self-protection.

In this case, the driver’s quick reaction avoided escalation: he locked the vehicle, maintained situational awareness, and used minimal force only when attacked. That’s precisely what transport safety training prescribes: de-escalate where possible, retreat if needed, defend only to disengage.

Socially, Mr. Shouty Man represents a familiar archetype: the road-rage aggressor whose sense of urgency overrides empathy.

Psychologist Dr. Leon James of the University of Hawaii, who studies driver aggression, notes that these individuals “perceive inconvenience as a moral offense” and respond as if personally wronged.

Add a dose of status anxiety, “business suit” pride colliding with temporary helplessness, and humiliation becomes combustible. When the aggressor fell into the icy dyke, it wasn’t just a physical dunk; it was a metaphorical correction of hierarchy.

The driver’s call to his boss and witness corroboration shows emotional intelligence under pressure. He sought accountability, not vengeance. That’s critical: humor aside, self-defense ends where gloating begins.

In the future, experts would also recommend notifying local police immediately to document the assault attempt, both for legal protection and to deter repeat offenders.

Let’s dive into the reactions from Reddit:

These Redditors cheered the OP for giving the rude driver an icy dose of karma and teaching him a well-deserved lesson

rixrixrixrix − Good job teaching that arrogant p__ck. I assume his honking days are over for some time.

Acid_Fetish_Toy − That is bloody hilarious. Perhaps he'll think twice next time he gets all shouty.

Knersus_ZA − Cherry on the cake would be if he was late for a Very Important Meeting and wanted to hobnob with his fellow nobs. Yes, discworld reference.

sxclebo69 − In my head I shouted "BRILLY-ANT! !!!" ala Vyvyan from the Young Ones. In reality I upvoted this.

These commenters added humor and vivid imagination

TheSpitfired − Great story. I have to be honest though, my mind has immediately created headcanon for this story.

In my headcanon, when you kick open the door Mr. Shoutyman gets flung back but stops over the icy water and hovers.

This continues for a half-second until he looks down at the water, then back at you before he plummets.

As far as I'm concerned, this is how it happened.

thequickerquokka − I wear specs. One time, a woman who wanted the car parking spot I was already waiting for got angry, because I parked in it.

She called me four-eyes. While she was wearing glasses; AND sunglasses on her head.

She didn’t appreciate being called six-eyes, apparently – or maybe that I was laughing at her. But, the wit, right?? Positively Parkeresque.

newtsheadwound − The image of a 6’3”, 285lb man saying “Mr. Shouty Man” made my day

This commenter simply guessed the rural UK location based on the description

felesroo − very rural and mostly flat part of the UK Gonna guess Lincolnshire

This user noted that the driver’s behavior could legally count as assault

Gadgetman_1 − You should have called the police before you called your boss.

That probably counted as 'A__ault with a deadly weapon' or something like that. IANAL and all that. And because it was 'road rage',

it would have resulted in him losing his license for quite a while, even if the judge threw out the rest of it.

This user shared a spooky delivery story of their own

[Reddit User] − I once did a delivery within spitting distance of Sizewell B Nuclear Powerstation. It was waaaayyy out in the Styx.

When I got to the property all the outbuildings were covered with ivy and brambles. They were old Nissen huts left over from the war.

All one could see were these dark impenetrable semicircles in the brambles. Even the house itself was covered in ivy.

Really spooky. There was also NO mobile signal (cell coverage). Then the whole family came out to watch me do the delivery,

Ma’n’Pa, the boy and the girl. .....and the f__king dog! ! What really worried me was that they all looked alike! Even the dog!

I really wondered what their entertainment was on those long dark winter evenings!

I thought that they could do away with me and hide my truck in one of the huts

and no one would ever find me or my remains! It was properly unnerving

So, was it self-defense or poetic justice wrapped in steel-toed boots? Either way, one hot-headed driver found out the hard way that yelling at a 6’3” oilman in winter isn’t the smartest move.

The story perfectly captures that rare British balance of politeness and quiet vengeance. Sometimes, the universe doesn’t need to intervene; gravity and a well-timed kick will do.

What do you think? Was the driver right to teach “Mr. Shouty Man” a soggy lesson, or should he have kept the door shut and called the police?
