Woman Yells Obscenities, Gets Corpse Husband as Her New Soundtrack

Living in an apartment is a delicate social dance. You try to be considerate, keep the noise down, and generally respect the fact that someone else’s ceiling is your floor. But what happens when that social contract gets shattered by threats of violence over ten minutes of crafting?

One Redditor found himself in that exact spot. At 6 PM, a perfectly reasonable hour, his light hammering was met with a storm of obscenities from his downstairs neighbor. Her response was so wildly aggressive that he decided a simple apology wouldn’t do. Instead, he opted for a solution that was petty, brilliant, and very, very loud.

So, what happens when a neighbor dispute gets this personal?

Woman Yells Obscenities, Gets Corpse Husband as Her New Soundtrack

Downstairs neighbor threatens me so I remind them it's not a good idea to pick a fight with someone who controls your ceiling space?

So I'm on my balcony in an apartment doing a 10 min craft project and my downstairs neighbor storms out two minutes

into some light hammering on my part at 6pm to yell obscenities, threaten to beat my [butt], and end with threatening the call cops.

I yelled back a few times I'd only be a minute but she was just not reasoning with me.

So when I wrapped up I moved my subwoofer to the floor, adjusted some innocent settings, and played Corpse

at a very reasonable volume. Whole floor is vibrating until quiet hours every day until I'm done laughing at my own joke.

Tomorrow I'll be going to the office to turn them in for smoking on their porch and throwing cigarette butts

where people (including me) walk their dogs, poisoning hazard after all and the smoke gets in my house.

I haven't said anything because I'm not a narc, but don't start no thing won't be no thing.

You know that feeling when a situation goes from zero to one hundred in a split second? That’s exactly what happened here.

One minute you’re minding your own business, doing a little project, and the next you’re being threatened by a neighbor who seems to have skipped right past “common decency” and landed on “unhinged rage.”

You can feel the OP’s shift from a regular, considerate tenant to an instrument of pure, vibrating vengeance. And honestly, can you blame him?

When someone decides to throw reason out the window and replace it with threats, it changes the rules of the game. He didn’t just get loud, he got tactical. This isn’t just noise anymore; it’s a statement.

The Science of a Subwoofer Standoff

Let’s be honest, neighbor disputes are practically a rite of passage for apartment dwellers. According to a Forbes Advisor survey, a whopping 74% of Americans have had a problem with a neighbor, and noise is consistently one of the top complaints. It’s a deeply relatable frustration.

But this story isn’t just about noise, it’s about the escalation. The neighbor’s reaction was completely out of proportion to the offense. Instead of a polite knock or a simple request, she chose immediate, aggressive confrontation. This kind of response taps into a very primal part of our brains.

As clinical psychologist Dr. Roxy Zarrabi explains, our homes are our sanctuaries. When that peace is disrupted, it can feel like a deep personal violation, a loss of control.

“When we are in our homes, we have an expectation that we should feel comfortable,” she says. “Disputes with neighbors often represent an ongoing threat to our ability to feel safe and secure.”

The neighbor likely felt this sense of intrusion, but her decision to threaten physical violence instantly lost her any moral high ground. It turned a simple request for quiet into a power play.

The OP’s response, the subwoofer, was a direct answer to that power play, reminding her that in the delicate ecosystem of apartment living, the person upstairs holds some very powerful cards.

Redditors Gleefully Offered Their Own Annoying Anthems

The community’s first line of attack? Weaponizing the most infuriating children’s music imaginable.

CoderJoe1 - To properly invoke Satan, switch to Baby Shark on repeat.

LegionHelvete71 - I'd personally go with It's A Small World. Nothing like some good old Disney tunes to make people happier, right?

riggedeel - Some excellent suggestions here. But you need the BEST suggestion. [Narwhal Song (warning may get stuck in your head)]...

I challenge you to watch it through twice. Report back tomorrow when it is still stuck in your head.

Of course, many Redditors agreed that a musical assault required something a bit… heavier.

rhymeswithwalrus - Corpse is good but for r/pettyrevenge have you considered C__nibal Corpse?

No-Bet3523 - Any music with 808 drops

generation_sap - You should play "You Suffer" by Napalm Death on repeat, or at least between songs

Another camp argued that true psychological warfare isn’t about the song, it’s about the repetition.

LuxValentino - Just play the first third or so of a well known song over and over.

DaDuchess-1025 - YouTube has the price is right theme song on a ten hour loop…

Then there were the truly creative suggestions, aiming for pure, unadulterated madness.

goinghome81 - being that is cold and flu season, and I have a fever... WE NEED MORE COWBELL

ShadeTreeMechanic512 - Cotton Eyed Joe ( Reloaded)

bobbytoni - "What Does the Fox Say" will make them insane.

Finally, some users offered more advanced tactics and shared their own epic war stories.

Cool_Cheetah658 - Want to one up your subwoofer? Get some tactile transducers, attach them to the floor, and play your music through them. Tada, your floor is now a speaker.

AuntieFox - Oooo I had upstairs neighbors that would thump their stupid music at all hours... I took my good speakers, stacked the kitchen chairs on my bed...

Waited till 2:30am then played the 1812 overture on full blast. I heard ungodly creaming and a thump... never had another problem ever.

kellieh1969 - F--- around and find out activated

One Redditor did offer a friendly critique of the OP’s strategy, noting a potential flaw in his musical choice.

mocha_lattes_ - Only problem I see with this is Corpse is good so they might end up enjoying it. Find something truly awful to play. Otherwise excellent petry revenge.

How to Deal with an Aggressive Neighbor (Without Starting a Subwoofer War)

While the OP’s response is deeply satisfying to read about, starting a full-scale war with the people you share a wall with is rarely the best long-term strategy. If you find yourself on the receiving end of a neighbor’s unhinged rage, the first rule is to prioritize your safety.

Don’t engage with someone who is yelling and making threats. The best course of action is to calmly state your side (e.g., “I’ll be done in five minutes”) and then retreat inside and lock your door. Let them scream at a closed door. The moment threats are made, the conversation is over.

Document everything. Write down the date, the time, and exactly what was said. If you can do so safely, recording the interaction on your phone can be helpful. Report the threats to your landlord or property management immediately.

A noise complaint is one thing, but a threat of violence is a serious lease violation they need to handle.

The Final Word

In the end, this is a beautiful, simple story of cause and effect. The neighbor chose chaos, and in return, her life is now set to a daily, floor-vibrating soundtrack. She messed around, and now she’s finding out.

So, what’s your take on this? Was this a case of perfect petty revenge, or should the OP have just let it go? And more importantly, what’s your go-to song for annoying a neighbor?
