Bride Tells Her Sister Not to Get Pregnant Before the Wedding, Then Uninvites Her for Expecting Twins

Weddings can bring out strong emotions, especially when plans have been building for months and family members are expected to play important roles.

But some expectations become unreasonable when they start extending into someone else’s health, pregnancy, or personal life.

One woman found herself in that position after learning she was pregnant with twins just months before her sister’s wedding.

Because the babies would likely be only a few weeks old by the ceremony, she planned to step down as maid of honor and simply do her best to attend.

Instead of understanding, her sister exploded, accused her of ruining the wedding, and reminded her that she had supposedly been told not to get pregnant beforehand.

The argument became so intense that the poster was eventually uninvited altogether.

Scroll down to see why the family celebration suddenly turned into a major sibling conflict.

A pregnant woman is accused of ruining her sister’s wedding after revealing she is expecting twins

not the actual photo

'Sister said I Ruined her wedding?'

Ok here is the context:.

\*My sister is getting married in Oct 26 a beautiful outdoor spring wedding (we are in Australia)

\* She instructed me I was MOH (not asked just told me), she said you don’t have to ask family they should just do it

\* she wants a child free wedding. fine. My in-laws will have my son who will be 18 months at the time

\* The wedding is in a holiday destination which is a 2 and a half hour drive

from where we live and my in laws have a holiday house there and we

planned on staying there and my I laws will watch my son at their holiday house...

\* she had asked hubby to be her MC

\* their bridal party is uneven including me she has MOH and 4 bridesmaids

and her finance has best man and 3 groomsmen... Ok now the situation:

I’m currently very early in my second pregnancy with twins, and suffering

really terrible morning sickness although I’m sick all the time . As not

finished first trimester we haven’t announced yet. 38 weeks is mid August

so all being well babies will barely be six weeks at her wedding. Hubby and I

spoke about it and feel the best thing will be if I step down as MOH let her

have her best friend and I’d do my best to attend.

\* sister was at my house last night, and I needed to go and vomit, and she

made a joke to my husband about it being morning sickness. And he was

like it actually is, we haven’t announced it yet and my sister lost it and came

into my ensuite yelling at me that I’m so selfish.

\* she told me I’ve ruined her wedding and she “told me “ not to get pregnant before her wedding.

\* hubby told her she was welcome to leave

until she stopped yelling. I gave her the night to just settle down and mull. I

called her this morning. She lost it at me on the phone, continued that I ruined her wedding and I was uninvited..

Sometimes the most painful family conflicts happen when one person’s major life event is treated as though it should control everyone else’s life.

This woman was already dealing with severe pregnancy sickness and the uncertainty of carrying twins when her sister learned the news.

Instead of concern, the immediate response was anger: she was “selfish,” had “ruined” the wedding, and had supposedly ignored instructions not to become pregnant beforehand.

Being uninvited the following morning turned what should have been joyful news into rejection.

The emotional conflict appears to come from expectations colliding with reality.

The bride had constructed a particular picture of her wedding: her sister as maid of honor, her brother-in-law as MC, and presumably predictable attention and participation from everyone involved.

A twin pregnancy disrupted that picture dramatically.

If the babies arrive around August, they could still be extremely young by an October wedding, while the mother may also be recovering from childbirth.

Stepping down as maid of honor was therefore not abandonment.

It was recognition that she could no longer promise what the role might require.

There is another perspective worth considering. Weddings can become psychologically symbolic, particularly between siblings.

A bride can choose her wedding date, guest list, and bridal party.

She cannot reasonably reserve another adult’s reproductive timeline for herself.

The sister was even attempting to minimize disruption by voluntarily stepping aside rather than demanding special accommodation.

The best response now may be to stop trying to repair the wedding plans while emotions are high.

The pregnant sister can leave the invitation question with the bride and focus on her health, pregnancy, and immediate family.

If the bride eventually recognizes that disappointment did not justify cruelty, reconciliation may still be possible.

But an apology should not require pretending the pregnancy was wrongdoing. A wedding lasts one day.

Decisions involving children, childbirth, and recovery belong to an entirely different scale of life.

Here’s what Redditors had to say:

These Redditors urged stepping down as MOH and focusing on the twins instead

lh123456789 − Your sister is selfish. You should back out as MOH and just attend as a guest.

in_and_out_burger − Perfect - don’t make her tell you twice, accept you are uninvited and enjoy the new babies.

Adelucas − Yay she uninvited you. That means no money wasted in her pre

wedding preparations and events, travelling, dresses, and all the other

malarkey. Stick to not attending and being MOH. That's a bullet dodged.

The whole things going to be a disaster. Best watch it explode from a distance.

KJParker888 − She's given you a gift! If all goes well, your twins will be 6

weeks at that time, and you won't feel like going anywhere. When she

brings up the idea of you resuming the role of MOH, be sure to tell her "No

thank you! I couldn't DREAM of taking any attention away from you on your big day! "

Leading-Fig27 − Mate, you’ve dodged a bullet. Stay home with your feet up

& let that insanity happen without you. I’m a twin mum & our girls were

born pre-36 weeks & were in special care for nearly 3 weeks. There is no

way I’d be going near a wedding at six weeks post partum from twins.

This group slammed the sister as an entitled bridezilla making the wedding all about herself

animavivere − Well, I think we know what your sister is: a massive bridezilla.

This reaction is a classic with self centered brides. It is not so much their

day as their year and godforbid someone has a miledtone/accomplishment

in the same era as them. If I were you I'd talk to your parents before she does because she's gonna spin it.

EastBayGirl64 − She was rude before your pregnancy. Now she's just

another entitled i__ot. Congratulations on your babies! Step away, enjoy

the preparation for two wonderful miracles to arrive. I hope you soon feel

better. But you can definitely eliminate her from your life for the moment.

If she does cool down and invites you, decide at that time whether to attend.

But if you do, that 2-5 hours on the day of the wedding is the only energy

you should MAYBE dedicate to the selfish wench. It's sad when a sibling

shows true colors you didn't know were there, but you sound like you've got a wonderful life and future. Enjoy!

Munchkin_Media − What a selfish bovine. Congratulations on your

wonderful news. I am sorry she treated you like garbage. Brides are

ridiculous. It's a 6 hour party. People's lives go on. What a stupid reason to alienate your sister and nieces and nephews.

Agile-Scientist-8926 − Posts like this one are the reason why I’m addicted to

this subreddit! lol Just when I think I’ve read all the different scenarios and

stories of crazy brides. I’m stunned by another one! Ladies can you please

explain why or how women turn into Bridezillas, the second they are engaged? ? Is it just a one off for the craziness?

Or is it that, the bride has always been this way? Or has she always been

this way, but never revealed just how much of a bad, selfish, entitled,

narcissistic and horrible person she really is? She just hides it well, but now

she can’t hide it anymore? I actually cancelled my wedding, because of how much of a bad person she really was.

Best decision I could have ever made. I’m 48 now, I’ve been married for 25

years. She is also 48, been engaged 3 times. And all three times the groom

cancelled the wedding. Last time I ran into her, she said that she just

doesn’t understand why all 3 times it was canceled.

I told her the truth and said it’s because of her behavior and horrible

treatment of others. Of course she said I was wrong, and she’s a great

person. Lol Anyways, I mentioned that story because, I fear that if your

sister doesn’t change her ways. She will not be married for long. She will

end up burning bridges with friends, family and interested men.

As she gets older, she will become more bitter and in return no one will

ever be interested in her. This behavior towards you, is unacceptable. Even

though she’s your sister, your unborn twins are the priority. Not her selfish

ass. I know women don’t like to be told the real truth and no woman wants to deliver the truth.

You need to put her in her place. Tell her that her behavior towards you is

unacceptable. You will not tolerate it. She owes you an apology. If she

doesn’t want to apologize, which she won’t want to do. Hold firm! ! She

needs to understand that there are consequences for her actions. It’s a life lesson she needs to learn.

No apology, no attendance from you in her wedding! Good luck

These commenters said the sister was the selfish one and should face the consequences of her behavior

Confident-Service256 − Say ok then! Have a nice wedding. She’s the selfish one.

Lewca43 − Your sister is a selfish a__hole. She’s showing you who she is,

believe her and let her step out of your and your immediate family’s lives.

Your children don’t need anyone like her around. Good riddance.

What should have been happy news collided with a wedding plan that had become far too rigid.

The poster was already prepared to step down as MOH and reduce pressure on everyone, yet her sister responded by blaming the pregnancy itself and ultimately uninviting her.

That turns a scheduling problem into something much more personal.

Do you think the bride had any right to feel upset, or did she cross the line by acting as though her sister should have planned a pregnancy around the wedding? Would you still attend if invited again?
