Summary:

  • “Fear Street 4” is officially in the works and will be based on R.L. Stine’s novel, “The Prom Queen.”
  • The film will feature an entirely new cast, as none of the original actors from the previous installments are returning.
  • The story centers on high schooler Lizzie McVay, who finds herself in the running for prom queen, only to discover that her fellow candidates are being brutally murdered one by one.

Although the curse of Shadyside was seemingly broken in “Fear Street Part 3: 1666,” the threat of terror looms again with “Fear Street: Prom Queen.” Building on the success of the original Netflix trilogy, this new project continues the anthology vision initially conceived, tapping into the extensive library of R.L. Stine’s works.

Directed by Leigh Janiak, the “Fear Street” series spans three films set in 1994, 1978, and 1666, each paying tribute to horror classics such as “Scream” and “Friday the 13th.” (via X)

The trilogy is centered in the small town of Shadyside, where a group of teenagers grapples with a witch’s curse that triggers periodic outbreaks of violence by possessing townspeople and driving them to commit gruesome acts. Their quest to uncover the origins of the curse leads them back to 1666, to the story of Sarah Fier, a local witch who was executed and has since haunted the town.

After a series of startling discoveries, a harrowing bread-slicer incident, and a climactic showdown at the local mall, the trilogy concludes with hints of more chilling stories to come, as teased in a post-credits scene.

R.L. Stine has officially announced that production on “Fear Street 4” will kick off in early 2024, and the film will be an adaptation of his 1992 novel “The Prom Queen.

This novel, the 15th in the Fear Street series, is set in the familiar town of Shadyside and centers around high school student Lizzie McVay, one of five prom queen candidates at Shadyside High in the 1980s. The plot thickens as the candidates for prom queen start being murdered one by one.

It remains to be seen how closely “Fear Street: Prom Queen” will stick to the plot of the book, or if it will primarily serve as a framework for a new narrative that builds on the first three films.

With the Sarah Fier storyline wrapped up, “Fear Street: Prom Queen” has the opportunity to either explore new ground or find a creative way to resurrect the old curse for further adventures in Shadyside.
