Summary:
- Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a play set 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts.
- Recently, a fan-made concept trailer for the story has taken fans on a nostalgic journey.
- If Warner Bros. agrees, this could be the next big idea for a movie in the franchise.
Now, over two decades after the release of the first book, and nearly four years after the final movie premiered in theatres, J.K. Rowling herself — along with Jack Thorne and John Tiffany — helped come up with the storyline for “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Jack Thorne then turned that story into a play, which eventually appeared on Broadway and went on to win six of the ten Tony Awards for Best Play in 2018.
Fan-Made Cursed Child Trailer Brings Us Back to Hogwarts
Set up 19 years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child follows Harry and Ginny’s youngest child, Albus, on his way to Hogwarts.
That is actually how Cursed Child opens. The story picks up directly from the final scene of Deathly Hallows Part 2, with the original trio—Harry, Ron, and Hermione—at Platform 9¾, sending their own children to school. Thus, from the off, Albus does not embark on the same kind of adventure his father did, as on reaching Hogwarts, he is sorted into Slytherin House.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child really does open with the off-stage. Just recently, the YouTube channel Darth Trailer unveiled an unofficial concept trailer for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Again, the trailer takes us back to Hogwarts, leaving us with all of the nostalgia of how long it really has been since we were taken back there.
The fan-made trailer sees Harry, now the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Magic, saying:
Nineteen years… 19 years since Voldemort was defeated and everything changed. But the past isn’t done with me yet.”
The trailer then splices shots of Harry, Ron, and Hermione heading back to their precious Hogwarts as a new kind of danger rears its head. This concept trailer just gives fans a taste of what a ninth movie in the franchise could look like, stirring feelings of nostalgia and excitement.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Could Be Warner Bros.’ Next Big Project
The Harry Potter fandom just feels like it’s always growing, too, picking up new devotees every year. When the books and the movies first came out, the key audience was made up of kids, but the fans have grown up with the stars in the movies who played their favorite characters.
That was ages ago now, though, and the franchise has stayed a comfort for many even well into adulthood. Many have gone back to the books by J.K. Rowling, rewatched movie marathons, and just never quite left Hogwarts behind. But now, that magical atmosphere has been brought back to us with the revival of the fan-made trailer.
If this fan idea were to become a reality, then it would definitely be an honor for the fandom.
For some time now, Warner Bros. Pictures and Max have been discussing working on a new Harry Potter project. The original cast members may not be likely to join each other in one place again, but this may be an opportunity to consider a new story set in the future, which will be linked in an unprecedented way to the world and characters that fans have embraced for years.
The Harry Potter community, and us included, want to return to Hogwarts now more than ever. Obviously, for now, one could see all eight films on Max.
