The Dallas Cowboys are optimistic about the return of star defenders Micah Parsons and DaRon Bland for their Week 8 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, but recent comments from owner Jerry Jones introduce some uncertainty.
The Cowboys’ defense has faced a series of injuries since the season began, yet there’s a glimmer of hope for improved strength coming out of the bye week. Bland, who was placed on injured reserve with a foot injury, has been designated for return, while Parsons, who suffered a high-ankle sprain in the team’s win over the New York Giants, could also make his comeback.
Parsons is reportedly making strides in his recovery. However, head coach Mike McCarthy mentioned that more clarity regarding his status won’t be available until midweek.
During his weekly radio appearance on Shan & RJ on Audacy’s 105.3 The Fan, Jerry Jones updated fans on the injury statuses of both players, adding to the uncertainty.
“You can’t tell today,” Jones stated. “We’re not going to be able to tell their availability until game time.”
While having these All-Pro defenders back would significantly enhance the Cowboys’ chances, it’s wise to adopt a cautious approach. If Parsons and Bland demonstrate sufficient progress during practice and can contribute without risking further injury, their presence on the field against a shorthanded 49ers offense could be crucial for securing a victory.
And that’s something the Cowboys desperately need.
