Dallas Cowboys fans were caught off guard when team stars Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs left Dak Prescott off their list of top NFL quarterbacks on Parsons’ podcast, The Edge. In a candid discussion about the league’s top signal-callers, the two defensive standouts named Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, Jared Goff, and Matthew Stafford, among others, but omitted Prescott.
Parsons admitted to Diggs that he couldn’t provide a definitive “top five” based solely on performances this season, hinting that it’s challenging to rank quarterbacks in a dynamic league. Still, it’s notable Prescott, their team’s quarterback, didn’t make the cut.
While this could have been an oversight, the omission comes at a time when the Cowboys offense has faced questions. The team sits at 3-4, and although Prescott has passed for 1,845 yards (ranking ninth in the league), his interception rate—eight turnovers in seven games—is the second highest this season. Prescott’s 10 touchdowns also put him 13th overall, and while Dallas has been strong in passing yards (ranking third), the team is only 22nd in points scored.
Signed to a $240 million contract extension before the season, Prescott has faced high expectations from Cowboys fans and critics alike. The Cowboys, while consistent in reaching the playoffs, have struggled to make a deep postseason push in recent years, and the pressure on Prescott is mounting. His position as the leader of “America’s Team” inevitably brings scrutiny, especially as the Cowboys aim to break through and contend for a Super Bowl.
The omission could simply be a reflection of recent performance, but it raises questions about the team’s internal view of Prescott’s contributions. The Cowboys and Prescott will need to find their rhythm quickly as the season progresses, aiming to prove they can still be a contender when it matters most.
