The Dallas Cowboys’ 2024 campaign has spiraled out of control, with the team holding a dismal 3-7 record and languishing near the bottom of the NFC East. As their Thanksgiving matchup against the equally struggling New York Giants (2-8) looms, many fans and analysts have written off the Cowboys’ season as a lost cause.
Yet, linebacker Micah Parsons refuses to embrace the negativity. Speaking with conviction, Parsons defended the team’s potential, offering a bold perspective that clashed with the grim reality of their record.
“I’m going to put this out there,” Parsons declared, via On3.com. “We’re a damn good football team. I know the scores ain’t showing it, and obviously, people feel like we have so many missing pieces. I just hate that the score don’t really show how good we actually are.”
The Cowboys’ defense has often carried the weight of a team riddled with offensive and special teams inconsistencies. Parsons, however, views the squad’s struggles as an anomaly, insisting the talent is there to compete at the highest level.
Cornerback Trevon Diggs echoed Parsons’ optimism, emphasizing the team’s unified effort behind the scenes.
“I agree,” Diggs said. “I think the work that we put in in the facility, it’s hard to overcome, and it’s hard to win the game with just defense and it’s hard to win the game with just offense. It’s got to be all three cylinders. Everybody got to be clicking. But I feel like we have a really good football team. I agree with you, we really do.”
While the Cowboys’ confidence is commendable, it’s hard to ignore their alarming downward spiral. They’ve dropped five straight games at home—each by 20 or more points—and sit well outside the NFC playoff picture.
Parsons and Diggs may see a silver lining, but Cowboys fans may not share their sentiment. With their playoff hopes nearly extinguished, Dallas has little room for error as they prepare to host Washington and New York in back-to-back critical games.
Whether the Cowboys are as “damn good” as Parsons claims remains to be seen, but with time running out, their record continues to tell a different story.
