Since the announcement of the new Netflix series Wednesday, Addams Family fans have been waiting for this: Christina Ricci, the actor most closely connected with the title character, will play a key role in Tim Burton’s live-action series.
Christina Ricci in Wednesday
According to sources, Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday Addams in the Barry Sonnenfeld-directed Addams Family film trilogy in the 1990s, will be a series regular in Wednesday, which stars Jenna Ortega in the title character.
To save the surprise for fans, Christina Ricci’s role is being kept under wraps, although it does disclose that she plays a new character, not an older version of Wednesday.
Wednesday Cast
Following the departure of Thora Birch in the middle of production, Christina Ricci was brought in. Ricci is portraying a new character on the program who is identical to the one portrayed by Birch and will take its place on the show. Ricci has been discreetly working on Wednesday for weeks, and production on the MGM-produced series is set to complete at the end of the month in Romania.
Ortega plays Wednesday Addams during her years at Nevermore Academy in the coming-of-age comedy directed by Burton and written by Smallville writers Al Gough and Miles Millar. It’s classified as a detective mystery with supernatural elements.
Christina Ricci co-stars with Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams and Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, in addition to Ortega.
Fans of the Addams Family movies like Christina Ricci’s portrayal as Wednesday, so when the Netflix series was announced, they started a petition to get her cast in it.
Wednesday is executive produced by Burton, with showrunners Gough and Millar. Kayla Alpert, Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman for 1.21, Kevin Miserocchi, Jonathan Glickman for Glickmania, and Gail Berman are also executive producers.
Christina Ricci’s other projects
Christina Ricci will next appear in Season 2 of Showtime’s smash drama Yellowjackets, in which she also stars. She also produced Amazon’s Z: The Beginning of Everything and The Matrix: Resurrections. ICM Partners and Untitled Entertainment are her agents.
