The Tomorrow War 2 sequel sci-fi film with Chris Pratt is reportedly being discussed by Skydance and Amazon Studios in reaction to The Tomorrow War’s phenomenally successful worldwide streaming launch this past weekend.
There are plans to reunite the whole creative team, including Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski, Betty Gilpin, Sam Richardson, Edwin Hodge, and Oscar winner J.K. Simmons, both in front of and behind the camera. The studio that was initially assigned to theatrically release the first movie, Paramount, is also participating in the sequel.
Is the movie The Tomorrow War as bad as movie critics are saying it is?
According to Screen Engine’s PostVOD, the international sci-fi actioner debuted at No. 1 across streaming platforms during the holiday weekend after premiering on July 2nd in over 240 countries and territories exclusively on Prime Video. Since Screen Engine’s PostVOD summer reporting in May, the movie has been the most popular live-action streaming movie of the season.
The Pratt movie had 20,55K reviews on Amazon Prime, with a 4.5 out of the 5-star average. This is one of the greatest numbers and ratings for a recent release throughout the first week of the program.
Along with holding the top spot among streaming services in the US, Prime Video also had record-breaking viewership in countries across the world, including Brazil, India, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Australia, Mexico, Argentina, and Japan.
Streaming analytics corp. reports that in 3M Smart TV terrestrial homes Another successful weekend for Amazon followed Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse (2.3M U.S. households over three days, according to Samba TV) and Borat: The Next Movie, with 2.4 million U.S. households tuning in to Tomorrow War (1.6M).
According to analytics company ListenFirst, Tomorrow War ranked first for social conversation/interest (TV-I) on opening weekends across the entire entertainment business (film, TV, streaming, and theatrical).
Is The Tomorrow War coming to Amazon’s own Prime Video platform?
As previously informed, Skydance sold The Tomorrow War to Amazon for $200 million. In the aftermath of their acquisitions of Skydance, Paramount’s Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse, and Paramount’s Coming to 2 America, which is supposedly Prime’s most-viewed movie ever, Amazon is committed to building up an arsenal of streaming tentpole titles.
The news of the upcoming The Tomorrow War follows the previously revealed Netflix sequel for Skydance’s The Old Guard, making Skydance one of the few production companies to debut an original movie franchise on two distinct streaming services. The sixth most viewed movie on Netflix, The First Old Guard, starring Charlize Theron, attracted 78M WW homes in its first four weeks.
Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan is a series that is also available on Amazon from Skydance and Paramount Television Studios.
Chris Pratt‘s standing as a prominent actor is further solidified by Tomorrow War’s widespread popularity. The Tomorrow War is entirely original IP, even though Pratt has seen enormous success with the Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World franchises.
