Aldi Shopper Locks Her Cart To Someone Else’s After They Block The Aisle Too Many Times

We’ve all been there, frustrated in a grocery store, waiting to pass through aisles clogged with shoppers who don’t seem to care about anyone else. One Aldi customer had his patience tested multiple times by a woman who just couldn’t seem to follow basic aisle etiquette.

What started as simple irritation quickly turned into an act of mischievous revenge when he locked her cart to his, leaving her to deal with the mess. The question is, was it petty payback, or a justified moment of grocery store justice?

An Aldi shopper, repeatedly blocked by a rude woman’s cart, locks it to their own, retrieves their quarter, and leaves her struggling with both at checkout

not the actual photo

'I locked my Aldi cart to another person's cart inside the store?'

I was at Aldi and there was a woman shopping by herself with a rather full cart.

My first encounter, she had her cart sideways blocking most of the aisle, standing against one side and looking at food on the other side.

I make my way past her and of course as soon as soon as I'm close, she steps forward to get the food she was looking at.

I politely do the "oops excuse me" and wait to pass, not even bothered yet, whatever, it happens all the time.

Second time, I'm pushing my cart along the outside and she's about to pull in front of me, I can see it.

She half goes without looking, but hesitates, and I stop because I think she's about to, but then she doesn't,

so I start to go, and then she hesitates again, and pushes right in front of me. I roll my eyes.

The third time I see her, she parks it totally sideways and blocking the whole aisle between those island freezers and the wall.

She leaves it unattended and goes to get something else.

So in the middle of grumbling and reaching to move it, I instead put her latch into my cart,

leave my 3-4 items, take my quarter back, and scurry off to get a new cart.

I don't think she had another quarter, as I saw her trying to push both awkwardly at the same time in different directions to the checkout.

Sometimes, little annoyances turn into small battles, and this Aldi encounter is a perfect example of that. At first, the frustration was minimal. But as the same woman blocked the aisle again and again, the tension quietly built.

The last straw came when she left her cart stretched across the aisle like a barricade, vanishing to another section. Instead of confronting her, the Redditor decided to make a point, with a twist of humor and defiance, by locking her cart to the offender’s and walking away. It wasn’t about revenge as much as reclaiming a moment of control in a small but symbolic way.

For anyone who’s ever stood behind someone blocking an aisle, this reaction feels strangely relatable. Modern life rarely gives us safe outlets for irritation, so it spills out in tiny bursts, eye rolls, muttered sighs, or, in this case, an ingenious act of petty mischief.

It’s the human need for justice meeting the everyday chaos of shared spaces. There’s a small satisfaction in imagining the cart-blocker’s confusion later on, even if the act itself carried a trace of guilt. It’s a reminder that everyone has limits, and that even in a grocery store, boundaries deserve respect.

Behavioral scientist Dr. John Bargh told The Atlantic that minor frustrations often trigger what he calls “emotional overflows,” where pent-up irritation from unrelated parts of life erupts in small but symbolic gestures. “Small annoyances can build up over time and trigger disproportionate responses, especially when we feel powerless or unheard,” he explained.

In this sense, the Aldi incident is less about grocery etiquette and more about a quiet assertion of control in a situation that felt one-sided. Experts in social psychology note that acts of “benign retaliation”, minor, non-harmful ways of expressing frustration, can briefly restore emotional equilibrium.

Still, the healthiest path forward usually involves communication or humor rather than escalation. Sometimes the best move isn’t locking a cart, but taking a step back, laughing at the absurdity, and reclaiming calm before irritation wins the day.

Here’s the feedback from the Reddit community:

These commenters praised the cleverness of OP’s move, calling it a creative and satisfying form of petty justice

ThatGuyStanding − If you had put her cart into yours, and then locked it, her groceries would've been locked into the cart

Loa_Sandal − Nice, I'll remember that trick.

ChemistryFan29 − That is a real D__k move to make, Way to go, That is perfect, seriously I applaud your creativity.

This group shared their own funny or assertive tactics for dealing with aisle blockers, from saying “beep beep” to physically moving carts

flower_child077 − When people are blocking aisles when we go food shopping, my mom yells BEEP BEEP or HONK lmao it's embarrassing but hilarious at the same time

Atomaardappel − Wow, I might have to actually do this. I usually just grab their cart and move it to the side.

Sometimes they'll say "hey, that's my cart" and I just say "I know, I'm just moving it out of the way so other people can shop.",

which is usually enough to see the look of realization in their face.

Sometimes, though, they still don't get it, and I think that's when I will have to deploy this tactic.

Thank you for the inspiration to do what needs to be done.

Firm_Ad3131 − At Costco, I just bump carts out of my path if they are unattended.

Both, with experience in Aldi stores, confirmed that inconsiderate shoppers are the worst and said store employees secretly cheer petty payback

Societyisrael − As someone who used to work at Aldi, seeing this would have made my day.

Customers like that lady are so disrespectful and ruin everyone’s shopping/working experience.

graceisqueer − There’s a woman who goes to our local Aldi and parks her car right at the door.

This woman is mid 30’s-40’s, hops right out and walks in no problem. Whats better?

She does this every time she goes, and only goes to the store literally minutes before it closes. Zero consideration for anyone other than herself.

The cars going to probably look like a demo derby vehicle if she continues parking there,

¢25 is totally worth seeing her reaction to a cart parked against the doors when she comes out.

She’s known to all the staff and they hate when she comes in. She’s been know to be there up to half of an hour after closing.

These users confessed to taking equally bold actions against rude shoppers, from bumping them aside to launching their carts away

Good-Mastodon2942 − Today I was at German Lidl, strolling through the isles with my ear buds on, doing my shopping.

Then a lady in her fifties overtakes me and just stands in front of my cart.

This annoyed me so I just continued walking my normal speed and just bumped her.

She looked at me and I pretended she wasn’t even there and continued.

[Reddit User] − Had a lady do this in fredmeyer while she studied frozen pizzas like they were ancient hieroglyphics she was translating.

This was a man path between aisles and a line would form. Everyone just stood there and watched her.

I finally grabbed her cart and launched it as far as I could down the main aisle and continued past.

Her look of horror was worth being petty.

This pair appreciated the humor, joking about adding random items to offenders’ carts and commending OP for “latching onto their stupidity”

9lobaldude − You latched your cart to her stupidity, well done!

Newbosterone − You’re much nicer than I am. The second or third time someone blocked me like that,

I assumed they needed help shopping. I’d add random items to the cart if it was left unprotected.

Sh8knB8k240 − I have this theory that people who walk or shop stupid, drive stupid. I feel like I can spot an inconsiderate, terrible driver in the store.

One celebrated OP as a “petty hero,” while the other expressed surprise at encountering rudeness in an Aldi, noting it’s rare behavior

[Reddit User] − Definitely on purpose. Some people just think your life must revolve around them.

I once had a young mother block me from getting out by putting her cart behind my car while she loaded her trunk.

As soon as she left to put her cart away, I started to back out, and she rushed over

and threw her arms up like I was supposed to wait for her to get in her car and have her back out first.

IMAGINARIAN_photos − Well played, Petty Crocker, well played! You’re my HERO! 🏆👏🏆👏🏆👏🏆👏🏆👏🏆👏🏆

[Reddit User] − That is the first time I've ever heard of an Aldi customer acting this way.

I've shopped at Aldi overseas, as well as here, and never saw any hint of rudeness. Sorry you experienced that.

What do you think? Was this Aldi shopper’s “revenge” a satisfying win, or did she overplay her hand? Have you ever pulled a similar stunt in public? Drop your thoughts below and let’s continue the grocery store drama!
