Barbara Eden has experienced an incredible transformation throughout her long career in Hollywood. From her early days in the industry to becoming one of television’s most beloved stars, her journey has been marked by numerous career highlights. A true triple threat, Barbara has showcased her talents in acting, singing, and fashion since the 1950s.
Born in Tucson, Arizona, in 1931, Barbara gained fame with recurring roles on hit shows like I Love Lucy, Gunsmoke, and Father Knows Best. In 1957, she took on the role of Loco Jones in the sitcom How to Marry a Millionaire. But it was in 1965, when she stepped into the role of Jeannie in I Dream of Jeannie, that her career reached new heights.
The show, which ran for five seasons, brought Barbara international fame. One of her favorite aspects of playing Jeannie was wearing the iconic costume, which was custom-made for her.
After I Dream of Jeannie ended in 1970, Barbara continued to work steadily in television, appearing in movies and series like A Brand New Life, Condominium, and Dallas. Her passion for performing has kept her going for decades. As she told Closer in 2019, “I will keep going until they kick me out. That’s what keeps my energy up. I love to work.”
Barbara’s personal life has also been filled with meaningful relationships. She married Jon Eicholtz in 1991, and prior to that, she was married to Michael Ansara and Charles Fegert. Tragically, her only son, Matthew Ansara, passed away in 2001 from a heroin overdose. Despite the hardships, Barbara continues to cherish her family and friends, as well as her enduring love for show business.
“I will be kicking along until they kick me out,” the “Rebel” singer told Closer in April 2019. “That’s what keeps my energy up. I love to work. If I don’t work, then I get lazy.”
