Chris Hemsworth has recently shed light on Thor’s unexpected cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. Following his latest portrayal in the controversial Thor: Love and Thunder, Hemsworth was surprised to find out that his character makes an appearance in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, although he didn’t film any new scenes for it.
In an interview with ComicBook.com (via @BrandonDavisBD), Hemsworth expressed his surprise and amusement upon discovering Thor’s inclusion in the new film. The brief moment includes a scene from Thor: The Dark World, with Hemsworth’s Strongest Avenger holding a dying Deadpool in his arms instead of his brother Loki, with half of his mask torn off.

“I didn’t. I didn’t [know]. It’s really cool, you’re kind of…like ‘oh cool, I’m part of the team, they were talking about me’ y’know? Though I’m not in it. I mean, it’s really cool that I’m a part of it. After all, it’s what makes [this franchise] really cool, the interconnected nature of it…” said the Extraction superstar, with Anna Taylor-Joy beside him, nodding in agreement.
It’s understandable that Hemsworth was completely oblivious about his cameo, since Marvel reused the Thor 2 footage with Thor and Loki, edited out Loki with CGI, and replaced him with the Merc with a Mouth. It’s a playful nod to another MCU franchise in Deadpool’s hilarious comedic fashion, and the scene itself probably doesn’t have a too serious impact on the overall storyline.
The particular moment when Thor is seen cradling Wade Wilson, tears streaming down his face as he mourns over the gravely injured mutant, is part of a sequence viewed on one of the TVA monitors shown in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailers, only for TVA’s Agent Paradox to hastily switch the display, revealing that this is a glimpse into the “distant future.
This use of archival footage means that Hemsworth’s appearance is brief and was included without his prior knowledge, so fans should not expect too much for any significant involvement of Thor in this film.
However, this doesn’t mean that the God of Thunder and the Merc with a Mouth can’t meet in the future. While Thor 5 is likely Hemsworth’s final solo title in the MCU, the actor and the character definitely still have a role to play in the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars before finally saying farewell. Thor and Deadpool are likely to meet in Secret Wars, where the Multiverse story of the MCU will likely reach its climax.
