The Dallas Cowboys are making some significant roster adjustments this week, including signing wide receiver Seth Williams and defensive end Luiji Vilain to their practice squad after a workout on Tuesday, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.
In addition to these practice squad moves, the Cowboys are promoting veteran defensive end Carl Lawson to the active roster.
Lawson, 29, was originally a fourth-round draft pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2017 out of Auburn. After playing out his rookie contract, he hit the free-agent market for the first time in 2021, signing a three-year, $45 million deal with the New York Jets. Entering the final year of that contract in 2023, Lawson agreed to a pay cut to remain with the Jets before eventually becoming a free agent again this offseason.
The Cowboys signed Lawson to their practice squad during training camp, and he has since made an impact in 2024. So far, Lawson has appeared in three games for Dallas, recording two tackles and half a sack.
These moves come as the Cowboys look to strengthen their depth at both wide receiver and defensive end following a series of injuries. With Lawson now part of the active roster, Dallas hopes his veteran presence will boost their defensive front as they head into a critical stretch of the season.
