Coworker Throws Out Everyone’s Lunches, Then Someone Eats Her 50 Wings A Month Later

Office fridge drama can get surprisingly personal, especially when someone decides to enforce rules they were never actually responsible for. I think resentment grows fast when that decision costs coworkers real money and management simply shrugs.

One employee says a coworker named Kara took it upon herself to clear out the breakroom refrigerator on a Monday because none of the food had labels, even though the usual purge only happened on Fridays and the missing tags were not anyone’s fault. Full lunches and leftovers disappeared, including a $15 deli sub, and nobody was reimbursed.

A month later, the OP spotted a clearly labeled box of 50 wings belonging to Kara sitting in the same fridge. What happened next involved a winter-cold car trunk, two equally annoyed coworkers, and one very satisfying meal. Scroll down to see why the OP still has zero regrets.

A worker gets revenge after an overstepping coworker throws away everyone’s lunches without consequence

'I proudly ate my coworkers lunch and it was fantastic'

I worked someplace where we had to write our name with name tags that were provided on our lunches.

Rule was at the end of the week our night manager and only him would purge the fridge Friday before the building was locked up.

I noticed one Monday that the cleaning staff must have thrown away the markers and name tags so everybody just placed their food in the fridge unmarked.

We had a busy body named Kara who decided to take it upon herself to purge the fridge on a Monday after her shift ended

because none of the food or drinks had name tags on it and I guess she thought the night manager forgot.

I guess she didn't think it was weird that every item was unlabeled and that there was so much food getting tossed.

She essentially threw away any leftover lunch that midshifters put in there and full lunches that closing shift placed in there.

We were all pissed and she didn't get in any trouble, we didn't get any compensation nor did management offer to buy those effected lunch.

I literally had a whole sub from an Italian deli that cost $15 thrown out.

She wasn't a manager but her role required her to work closely with management to the point that she thought she was a proxy manager.

Fast forward a month later and I go to grab my tea out the fridge and I notice a pizza box in the fridge and it says "Kara 50 wings...

Kara had a set schedule and was done for the day so I'm assuming she ordered the wings from a spot that closes early so she could take them home...

I took the box out the fridge, wrapped my jacket around it and placed it in the trunk of my car (it was winter time in the northeast).

Two of my close coworkers that lost their lunch took those bad boys back to my apartment after work and feasted. I don't feel bad and I would do it...

The icing on the cake was hearing her complain about it the next day and trying to start a rumor that there are cameras

in the breakroom and management started an investigation. That was b__lshit no cameras or investigation took place LMFAO

Being treated unfairly is frustrating enough. Watching the person responsible face no consequences can make the anger linger much longer. When nobody acknowledges the loss or repairs the damage, retaliation can begin to feel less like misbehavior and more like restoring a balance that should never have been disturbed.

That emotional logic is easy to see here. Kara ignored an established Friday fridge-cleaning procedure and discarded coworkers’ food on Monday despite not being the manager responsible for doing so. The poster lost a $15 lunch, management apparently offered neither compensation nor meaningful accountability, and the resentment survived for a month.

When he later saw Kara’s clearly labeled box of 50 wings, he recognized an opportunity. Taking them and sharing them with two coworkers transformed an earlier experience of powerlessness into a moment where they controlled the outcome.

There is an interesting psychological distinction, though. Kara threw away other people’s lunches while apparently believing she was enforcing workplace rules.

The poster knowingly took food that belonged to Kara specifically because it belonged to her. Intent makes those actions different. Many readers may still find his revenge satisfying because Kara’s earlier behavior violated their sense of fairness, but emotional symmetry is not the same thing as ethical equivalence.

Psychologist Michele Gelfand, whose research examines norms and social behavior, has explained that groups depend heavily on shared rules and expectations to coordinate behavior. When people violate those norms, others commonly feel anger and become motivated to punish the offender because punishment can help restore social order.

Research on punishment also shows something fascinating: people may experience satisfaction when they believe a person who behaved unfairly is receiving consequences. In other words, the pleasure of revenge is not necessarily mysterious cruelty; it can emerge from the brain’s powerful concern with fairness.

That helps explain why those wings probably tasted unusually good. The meal represented more than food. To the poster and his coworkers, it symbolically corrected an imbalance that management had ignored.

Yet revenge also creates a second violation instead of repairing the first. Had the theft been documented, he could have faced workplace consequences while Kara’s original mistake remained unchanged.

The more useful solution would have been a formal refrigerator policy with one authorized person, replacement of food improperly discarded, and clear consequences for employees acting outside their responsibilities. Management’s failure to address the original incident helped create the resentment that followed.

So the story works beautifully as petty-revenge entertainment, but perhaps not as a workplace blueprint. The wings delivered one satisfying evening. A fair system would have prevented anyone from needing revenge for lunch in the first place.

Here’s the feedback from the Reddit community:

These users celebrated the food revenge as fair payback for wasting everyone’s lunches

catschimeras − they say revenge is a dish best served cold, but apparently it's best served half mild and half BBQ.

Agath3Dvybz − I’m so glad I read until the end. You lost your lunch because of her now she loses her lunch because of you, it was only fair.

CoBidOdds − Payback's a B__CH! 😂

These commenters shared similar frustration over workplace fridge cleanouts destroying perfectly good food

MissMellieM − This is a lovely story! I'm still salty about a workplace fridge being cleaned out without warning a long time ago.

Half of my bottled smoothie was thrown away. I was in grad school, and those weren't cheap!

Arlenblaine − Several off site workers had to fill in at our office location on a Friday. An admin had the bright idea to purge the fridge right before lunch.

CEO had to buy lunch for everyone that day. Admin was eventually fired for ethics violations. I'm still upset about my homemade pizza sub.

These Redditors felt the woman should have expected backlash after throwing away so much food.

Evening_Delay_1856 − I guess I’m surprised that other people didn’t do the same since she threw everyone’s out.

She should have seen the writing on the wall with how much money’s worth of food she dumped.

Stray1_cat − She deserved it. She did it on a Monday, not the day it was supposed to be purged.

And it especially sucks for those that don’t get paid much and might not have been able to replace it.

These users enjoyed the revenge but warned that repeating it could risk serious workplace consequences

julesB09 − I loved every bit of this, except the part where you said, "and I'd do it again."

Early on in my career, after a bunch of stuff going missing in the fridges, we did install cameras and fired a guy for stealing a $.79 yogurt,

he lost a job he had for 10 years (we did post that any theft would be immediate termination after several issues and he still did it).

At least check for cameras next time, just because they aren't there today, doesn't mean they won't be tomorrow. ... they aren't always obvious. Well played though.

CapTroller − Love a good revenge story

TheFrenchSavage − 50 wings? ?? I hope she has a family, because I've never seen so many wings in my whole life.

Would you have eaten the wings too, or pushed management for reimbursement and a stricter fridge policy instead?

And be honest: would “half mild, half barbecue” have made resisting harder?
