Summary:
- Ewan McGregor hopes to return as Obi-Wan Kenobi, believing there are more stories to tell.
- He’s even encouraged fans to write to Disney to push for a second season.
Ewan McGregor has expressed a strong desire to continue portraying Obi-Wan Kenobi in a second season of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+.
Despite the series receiving mixed reviews and many feeling it could have been improved, McGregor had a fantastic time reprising his iconic role from the Star Wars prequels.
In a conversation with Variety during his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, McGregor shared his hope to return to the character, believing there are more stories to explore. He reflected on how meaningful it was for him to study Alec Guinness’ portrayal of the character:
“I loved, more than anything, getting to know Alec Guinness’ work because I was playing him as a young man. Even now with the series, that’s my personal challenge—if a take feels a bit like him, I’m happy.”
He continued by expressing his enthusiasm for a potential second season: “I really do hope we get a chance to do another one. Between where we ended off in the series and when Alec Guinness comes on screen with Luke Skywalker, I think there’s another few stories to tell in there.”
Previously, McGregor even encouraged fans to help make a second season happen by writing to Disney: “It was originally gonna be a movie, and I’ve often thought, should it have been a movie? But I kind of think it’s great that they did it that way, and it’s a longer story, and hopefully, it’s more satisfying as a result.
We got more time to weave a story. Let’s hope they do another one. Can everyone write to Disney? I’ll give you some email addresses at the end, and just say, ‘Dear Disney, let’s have a bit more of Obi-Wan Kenobi please.’
Though the Obi-Wan Kenobi series wasn’t initially intended to continue beyond one season, and there are no current plans for a second, the door isn’t completely closed. Fans may still see Kenobi appear in a future Star Wars project.
