Ex’s Husband Thinks He ‘Stole’ His Wife, So He Gets A Petty Revenge He Won’t Forget

Breaking up with someone is hard, but it’s even harder when their new partner just won’t stop thinking about you.

For one ex, his wife’s old flame didn’t just disappear from their lives after they moved on. Instead, the husband decided to get petty, posting online like a high schooler trying to prove a point.

But the ex-boyfriend had a trick up his sleeve: he turned the tables with a prank so satisfying, it left the husband wondering if he had underestimated his competition.

A man, taunted years post-breakup by his ex’s husband, signs him up for Jehovah’s Witnesses, yielding 8 visits in a month

'Ex’s husband can’t seem to get over me?'

So I dated a girl long distance for a year back in 2010. We broke up rather amicably, or so I thought.

Her new boyfriend (now her husband) called me about a month later,

telling me that she had been seeing him behind my back and that she never really loved me, etc…

Personally I laughed it off, I knew the relationship wasn’t going anywhere

and I had been looking for an easy out for months, being long distance made it much easier.

But apparently it made him feel good about himself.

Fast forward a few years, they’re married and he’s traveling for work, which included a layover in my city.

He posted something about me from the airport and tagged a mutual friend of mine so I saw the post.

Something along the lines of “Mr steal your girl back in your city.”

I know it was about me because the friend he tagged asked what he was talking about and he mentioned me.

Apparently he has made several posts like this (both before and after I saw this one).

I haven’t seen or talked to either my ex or him since about a month after called me years ago.

During which there were several petty interactions.

However, the fact that I was still on his mind after a few years, thinking that he had won some sort of competition against me

got my petty revenge thoughts brewing.

I mean he thinks is a petty competition, so why not step up to the plate and take a few (metaphorical) swings.

On this occurrence. I looked through his socials and noticed they were living my ex’s house.

So I knew the address… I also knew that you can sign people up to be visited by Jehovah's Witnesses.

Fast forward another few months. There’s a new post about him having to deal with JWs coming to his door 8 times in a month.

Dealing with past relationships can bring up a lot of unexpected emotions, especially when someone doesn’t seem to be able to move on. This was the case for the OP, whose ex’s husband can’t seem to get over their past connection.

The ex-husband, who married the OP’s ex, made multiple social media posts about the OP, calling him out in a childish way as “Mr. steal your girl back in your city.” It seemed like an attempt to one-up the OP in some petty competition that had clearly gone on for years.

According to Psychology Today, jealousy often stems from insecurities and unresolved issues from the past. When the OP’s ex’s husband keeps bringing up their relationship, it’s not about the OP, it’s about him needing validation or trying to feel superior. It’s fascinating how this kind of “winning” dynamic can linger for years.

According to Dr. Leon Seltzer, a psychologist, “When someone keeps trying to prove they’re superior to another person, it’s often because they don’t feel secure in themselves.” This is clearly the case here, as the ex-husband can’t seem to let go of a relationship that ended years ago, choosing instead to make posts about a person he likely doesn’t even know anymore.

The OP, in a moment of petty revenge, decided to take matters into their own hands. They discovered the ex-husband’s address and signed him up for visits from Jehovah’s Witnesses, hoping to make him experience a bit of inconvenience.

In response, the ex-husband posted more about the situation, showing that he still hadn’t moved past the OP. The OP, however, seemed to get satisfaction from seeing their “petty” act make an impact.

But is this behavior worth it? While it may have felt satisfying in the moment, the truth is that holding onto grudges and participating in petty revenge only keeps the past alive.

The best way to respond in situations like these is to recognize the root of the issue: the other person’s insecurities. As some Reddit users pointed out, there’s no need to continue engaging with someone who is clearly stuck in the past.

Sometimes, the best way to deal with people who can’t seem to let go of their jealousy or past relationships is to just let it go yourself. This might not have been the revenge the OP wanted, but moving on completely and focusing on the present might be the best answer.

Check out how the community responded:

This group found the whole situation amusing, commenting on how the ex-husband’s behavior seemed ridiculous

[Reddit User] − The free rent in his head is awesome too

SubarcticFarmer − I'm confused how he thinks proclaiming they are cheaters is brag worthy.

mcvos − So he thinks he's the s__t because you used to date his wife? You must be quite something then.

CommissarCiaphisCain − My favorite response to this guy is something along the lines of “I was in there first.”

These commenters enjoyed the petty revenge and suggested taking things even further

jersey8894 − I set up my ex's gf for the JWs, Mormons, door the door sales, any and all website

where you can request a call or free demonstration, email lists...and on and on and on...

after 5 years of hearing "your trying to get him back" when all we were doing was discussing our children drove me up a wall...

and yes I did tell her "lady if I wanted him back I wouldn't have kicked him out and divorced his a**!"

procrastinatorsuprem − Political mail can be relentless. Donate $1. to a bunch of political candidates that they would not agree with.

redneckerson_1951 − Next time you invoke the JW's, take it to a new level.

Send a money order with the request for info with the Ex's return address.

Nothing says, "I'm interested!" like money. Best $25 bucks I ever spent.

This group was fascinated by how effective the Jehovah’s Witness tactic was

islandrenaissance − Omg. I'm an exjw. What you did was more than petty. It's nuclear. They're like herpes.

Once you get them, you can't get rid of them. I don't know if I should be proud or feel sorry for them. Maybe a combination.

serraangel826 − I wonder if the JW know they are a favorite method of pissing someone off. If so, do they care? Any JW out there to answer?

dr_jackrabbit − I would have checked in at the location of your ex and tagged one of his mates with the comment "While the cat's away"

and let his mind do the rest, obvs it still plays in his mind or he wouldn't be making a deal of it now

So, what do you think? Did OP go too far with the JW prank, or was it the perfect petty revenge? And what would you do if you were in OP’s shoes? Would you let someone keep renting space in your head, or would you have played along with the petty games too? Share your thoughts below!
