Father-In-Law Kicks Out New Parents, Then His Secret Projects Come Back To Haunt Him

by Leona Pham

in Social Issues

Sometimes the biggest conflicts within families are not caused by a single argument, but by years of resentment, unfair treatment, and unresolved hurt.

When someone feels pushed aside, the desire for justice can become impossible to ignore.

The original poster (OP) felt betrayed after his father-in-law suddenly forced him, his wife, and their newborn daughter out of the home they had been living in.

Despite paying rent, they were left scrambling after the locks were changed without warning.

Years later, OP watched as the same property decisions that caused tension came back with serious consequences.

Read on to see how a painful family situation eventually reached a breaking point.

Man reflects on his painful fallout with his father-in-law

Father-In-Law Kicks Out New Parents, Then His Secret Projects Come Back To Haunt Him
not the actual photo

'Father in law kicked me out 4 years ago and I reported his illegal detached 2bdrm ADU unit and extra 1 bedrm in main house and for PPE Loan fraud?'

Father in law kicked me,my wife and daughter out after living with him for

3 months. My daughter was 3 month old at the time.(We were paying

$1500 for I s__t you not a Harry Potter closet ) He changed the locks one

day out of the blue. Mother in law had convinced him we need to leave the

house to be independent . She has her 23 year old niece ving rent free in

detached adu(she's unemployed and stays home all day). And her brother

my wife's uncle a 45 year old man living rent free as well. Waited almost 4

years to get my revenge now the city is giving him 30 days to destroy the

units or pay the $25-30k fines plus submit professional contractor plans

and inspections another $15-20k. He has also had a visit from some plain

clothes officer investigating the PPE loan fraud(all this in span of 2-3

months) he used the PPE loan for the materials to build the ADU and by 2

Ford Raptors,1 brand new jeep rubicon(he gloated to me one day when he

was drunk). I feel much better and I am at peace now. I can never tell my

wife I did this to her family or she would divorce me.

Sometimes the deepest anger does not come from a single argument, but from a moment when someone feels powerless, humiliated, and abandoned.

When people believe they were treated unfairly, it is natural to want some form of justice or recognition that what happened to them mattered.

In this situation, the OP’s emotions appear to come from more than the housing conflict itself.

Being forced out of a home while caring for a newborn would likely leave many people feeling rejected and vulnerable.

The fact that other relatives were allowed to stay while he, his wife, and their baby were asked to leave seems to have created a lasting sense of unfairness.

The later problems facing his father-in-law feel satisfying to him because they represent a reversal of power: the person who once made him feel helpless is now facing consequences.

However, there is another side to this emotional reaction.

When someone experiences a painful event, the desire to see the other person “get what they deserve” can become a way of processing hurt.

Psychologists often describe this as a search for justice after betrayal or humiliation.

The relief may feel real, but it does not always resolve the original wound.

The person may still carry resentment because the emotional injury happened years earlier and was never properly addressed.

This perspective does not mean the OP’s anger is unreasonable.

Being unexpectedly locked out of a home, especially with a young child involved, would be deeply upsetting.

Feeling relieved when someone who caused harm faces consequences is also a common human reaction.

The important question is what happens next.

Holding onto resentment can keep a person emotionally connected to the very situation they want to leave behind.

The more complicated issue is the secrecy surrounding the OP’s actions.

A marriage often depends on trust and shared values, especially when conflicts involve family.

Keeping a major decision hidden because of fear of a partner’s reaction suggests there may still be unresolved tension beyond the original family conflict.

Ultimately, justice and healing are not always the same thing.

Seeing someone face consequences may provide temporary satisfaction, but true peace usually comes from rebuilding a life where that person’s choices no longer control your emotions.

The most powerful outcome is not simply watching someone else fall; it is reaching a point where their actions no longer have the ability to define your happiness.

Here’s how people reacted to the post:

These commenters supported OP’s actions

Remember_Order66 − For a month after we left, I listened to my wife cry

herself to sleep because her father didn't want her anymore. The painful

truth is, she still loves him. But as a husband and a father, I cannot stand by

and let him go unpunished for what he did to the women I love.

A year ago, my mother-in-law asked for forgiveness, blaming her birth

control pills for her irrational outbursts while we stayed with them. I don't

buy it. She is completely unemployed, and her husband is pushing 60,

breaking his body doing landscaping with failing knees.

Her sudden remorse isn't genuine—it's strategic, arriving conveniently just

as my wife is about to graduate law school and finally start making good money.

Revolutionary_Owl709 − Good for you! Say NOTHING. Putting a family with

a newborn on the street is reprehensible. Hope it was worth it.

sexysmalldevil − Tbh . . if the father of my child told me he did what you did

bc my family had done what hers had done ? ? I would be fine w it. Her

family sounds a lil bit like mine. So good on you. Karma sometimes needs a

lil' encouraging nudge in the right direction 😂

These commenters warned OP to keep the secret hidden

Sedona_Susan − I recommend that you never get drunk and accidentally tell your wife.

OwlPlenty4828 − Some secrets are better being kept. Hopefully it all

worked out for you and your family Good on You

You_Are_The_Username − That's a great confession, but man I wouldn't

even post it online. .. 😐

These commenters shared similar stories about exposing unethical behavior and seeing consequences follow

punkwalrus − I knew a guy who was an independent government

contractor making a s__t ton of money in the defense industry. He made a

lot of enemies, because he was essentially a sociopathic backstabber and

didn't care who he hurt (except when he considered it "funny" and then

would laugh about it when people got mad at him).

One day, he pissed off a Navy comptroller with a lot of time on his hands.

Bad move. The comptroller insisted on a FULL audit of his background,

down to the minute details, which was allowed because the contractor did

TS level clearance work with the Navy. But you could be the most squeaky-

clean goodie two shoes, and they'll still find something.

He retired soon therafter.

FormidableMistress − Good! My narcissistic mom took money from me for

years all while telling family she was helping me because I was on drugs (I

wasn't). So I reported her to the IRS for fraud because she used her MLM

business to get 10k back every year.

In my report I described all the ways she "tweaked" her taxes because she

stupidly did it in front of me. She had to pay back the money and the MLM

parent company banned her from being a consultant ever again.

Hahahahhahaaha.

This commenter joked about the difficulty of keeping secrets

Wosgoingon − I can never tell my wife Remember 2 people can keep a

secret. .. if one of them is dead.

These commenters advised caution, warning that online posts could eventually expose OP’s involvement and create problems

petitevibes69 − dude if your wife ever finds out you reported her dad for

those illegal units and the fraud you are done for. keeep it to yourself

aalways man. .. hella

Fickle-Lemon-5982 − That is going to weigh on you. ....and its on the

internet. .... if your wife gets online and googled PPE loan and Reddit, it

could come up. .... I would delete this unless you think you've changed

enough in the story to make it unrecognizable. ...

The OP spent years carrying resentment after his father-in-law abruptly kicked him, his wife, and their newborn daughter out of the home they had been living in.

While they were paying rent for a tiny room, other relatives were allowed to stay on the property for free, leaving the OP feeling betrayed and treated unfairly.

Years later, legal issues surrounding the property, alleged permit problems, fines, and investigations have left him feeling like justice has finally arrived.

But with his wife unaware of his involvement, the situation raises a difficult question: is this true closure, or could keeping such a secret damage his marriage?

Do you think the OP was justified in seeking revenge, or should family conflicts be handled differently? Share your thoughts below!
