Disney has just released the trailer for its live-action adaptation of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” and it’s already making waves.
At D23, Rachel Zegler, who stars as Snow White, and Gal Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen, spoke about their roles in the highly anticipated film.
“It’s been the honor of a lifetime,” Zegler shared about stepping into the iconic princess role.
“I think any young person, any little girl, if you get to put on a Disney princess dress and be her for a day, let alone six months… it’s just been the most amazing experience and I can’t wait to share it with you all.”
Gadot also expressed her excitement about portraying the Evil Queen. “It was a lot of fun to do something completely different from anything I’ve done before,” she said. “She’s delicious, she’s evil, she’s magical. We got to sing all these different songs. It was incredible.”
Disney previously teased the film with an image of Zegler as Snow White, showcasing her signature bob haircut and surrounded by the seven dwarfs. Directed by Marc Webb (“The Amazing Spider-Man”), this live-action version offers a fresh take on the classic 1937 animated film.
The original story follows Snow White as she escapes from her jealous stepmother, the Evil Queen, who orders her death. Snow White finds refuge with seven dwarfs but is later poisoned by the Evil Queen’s apple. She’s ultimately saved by a prince’s kiss.
In the remake, Ansu Kabia takes on the role of the Huntsman, and Andrew Burnap joins the cast as Jonathan, a new character. While the film will feature some of the original songs, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul have also created new music specifically for this adaptation.
During the 2022 D23 Expo, Zegler and Gadot discussed how this version of “Snow White” will differ from previous interpretations. Zegler noted that Snow White’s focus is not on finding true love but on becoming the leader she believes she can be.
“She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and the leader that her late father told her she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave, and true,” Zegler explained. “It’s just a really incredible story for young people everywhere to see themselves in.”
Gadot praised the film’s crew and her experience on set. “I feel so lucky that I got to play something so far from what I know and what I’m used to, and I super, super enjoyed every second of it,” she said.
The film, originally set to debut on March 22, 2024, has been postponed to March 21, 2025, due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
