According to insiders, Netflix is in talks with Guy Ritchie’s 2019 film The Gentlemen for a show adaptation. Ritchie co-wrote the pilot story with Matthew Read, helm the first two episodes, and work as an executive producer on the show, which Miramax TV and Moonage Pictures are producing in the UK.
The Gentlemen TV series adaptation
A show pickup would bring The Gentlemen complete circle, as it began as a Tv show proposal before becoming a feature film. Ritchie previously developed and co-wrote the Channel 4 series Stock, Lock… in 2000, which was based on his movie Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. (In the Crackle series Snatch, which is likewise based on his film, Ritchie had no creative input.)
Ivan Atkinson, Marn Davies, and Bill Block, Ritchie’s colleagues producers on the film, executive produce The Gentlemen. Miramax TV’s Marc Helwig executive produces, while Moonage’s produced by Will Gould and Matthew Read.
What is the movie The Gentlemen about?
The Gentlemen features Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey), an American immigrant who developed a lucrative marijuana company in London. Once word comes out that he wants to retire from the business, plans, scams, bribes, and blackmail are devised in an attempt to obtain his dominion from under him.
Who is the cast of the 2020 movie ‘The gentlemen’?
Colin Farrell, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Jeremy Strong, and Hugh Grant were among the film’s star-studded ensemble cast. The Gentlemen was released in January 2020 and had a worldwide box office gross of over $115 million. The film was produced by Miramax and distributed by STX Entertainment in the United States.
After joining Miramax in 2020 as Head of Worldwide Television, Helwig set out to mine the company’s huge film archive for IP that could be transformed into a Tv show. The Gentlemen Tv show version was one of the first concepts he placed in production.
The Henna Artist, based on Alka Joshi’s bestselling debut novel, is also in the process at Netflix, with Freida Pinto signed to act and executive produce, and Michael Edelstein executive producing.
