Summary:
- Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter is reportedly part of MCU’s What If…? Season 3, and Avengers: Secret Wars as a Captain America variant.
- The character first made her MCU in 2021’s What If…? Season 1, and quickly becomes a fan-favorite.
- Tom Hardy’s Venom is also said to be included in Avengers: Secret Wars alongside several non-MCU superheroes.
The adventure is far from over for Captain Peggy Carter within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Alex Perez, a reliable insider source, has let slip in a recent Discord interview with The Cosmic Circus that we’ll be seeing more of Hayley Atwell’s character not just one, but at least TWO different MCU titles in the future. One of them is an Avengers title, even.
According to Perez, Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter will “be back in What If…? Season 3, and will also be one of the characters in play for Secret Wars.” This comes as big news for Marvel fans, as the latter, Avengers: Secret Wars, is widely considered the most ambitious Avengers title in the MCU’s history.
Given the movie’s premise of gathering heroes and villains from every corner of the MCU Multiverse for an ultimate showdown, it’s no surprise that Marvel Studios is keen on including Captain Carter, a standout variant of the beloved Captain America.
Making her MCU debut in the 2021 animated series “What If…?”, Peggy Carter took on the super soldier serum instead of her loved one, Steve Rogers, to take on the HYDRA, while the latter became the HYDRA Stomper. In the second season, Peggy has a much more prominent role, as she plays a key part in at least two episodes, including defeating the corrupted Strange Supreme in the final battle alongside Kahhori, an MCU’s original character.
Additionally, Atwell took on a live-action version of Captain Carter from Earth-838, a member of the Illuminati, in 2022’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” Yet, audiences should brace for a fresh take on the character in “Secret Wars,” distinct from the Earth-838 variant who met a grim fate at the hands of Scarlet Witch.
While there is no official confirmation just yet, Avengers: Secret Wars is reported to adapt the storyline with the same name from Marvel Comics. In this storyline, every hero and villain from different universes is assembled by a cosmic entity called The Beyonder for an ultimate battle. It’s easily one of the most popular storylines in Marvel history, so it’s no wonder fans are so hyped about the upcoming movie.
Adding to the multiverse mayhem, Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock/Venom is rumored to join the fray in “Avengers: Secret Wars.” This speculation comes from DanielRPK, who suggests Kevin Feige is keen on Hardy reprising his role for the crossover event.
This ensemble could potentially feature other non-MCU icons like Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, and Tobey Maguire‘s Spider-Man, who are said to join the fray as different variants of the original characters. Hardy’s Venom made a brief appearance in the MCU with a cameo in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” though he didn’t cross paths with other heroes.
As “Avengers: Secret Wars” looms on the horizon, the MCU is set to become a melting pot of universes, and we can only look forward to more exciting updates from Marvel Studios.
Avengers: Secret Wars is set to release on May 7, 2027, while there is no exact date just yet for What If…? Season 3.
