He Fired A Teen For Being “Late.” Years Later, The Teen Told His Wife Everything

Some revenge stories are loud, chaotic, and dramatic, but others play out quietly, carried by the kind of calm confidence you can only have after someone has already pushed you past your limit.

One Redditor shared a story about his teenage job in a small-town grocery store, where the boss managed to micromanage him, blame him for other people’s work, and fire him over absolutely nothing.

All while sneaking off for “private meetings” with a coworker behind a locked office door.

Years later, fate handed him a cold drink and an even colder opportunity: a chance encounter with that same boss… and the boss’s wife.

And let’s just say the truth had been aging like fine wine.

'Ruined my s__t bosses marriage?'

So I hope this fits here. It felt like pro revenge but in hindsight. It's quite petty.

About 10 years ago when I was 19 I worked for a regional grocery store in the meat packing department. Pay was bad and I had second shift.

I came in at 3 and left at 11. It wasn't a terrible job all things considered. I had the meat room to my self so I could listen to...

My duties when I showed up was to package more ground beef and other beef based products and put them on the shelf. After 5 I also had to juggle...

Well shortly after getting hired the boss of the meat department showed back up from vacation and I was the new guy.

Everything was fine at the begining but I found when I would clock in the lady behind the counter. We'll call her V.

Wouldn't be there and there would be a line. So I would clock in. Spend the first 30 minutes of my shift doing her job.

No problem I actually liked that position. Well after the line was done I would almost always see Mr Boss staring me down angry I'm not doing "my" job.

He would give me the rant about "doing my duties unless customers needed my help" and they almost always did but he wouldn't listen.

Come to find out. The reason V isn't behind the counter is because her and Mr Boss are having... "meetings" in his office with the door closed. Not my husband...

We continue this dance of me covering her station and getting in trouble for it for a few weeks untill an ice storm hits.

I tell my boss I can't my car out and im waiting on a ride so I might be a little late. nHe proceeded to fire me because "this is...

Btw I hadn't had any write ups. I agree that it's fine because I hate this job any way.

Fast forward 2 years. I'm 21. And I'm celebrating with my friends at basically the only local bar in this terrible tiny s__t hole town and when we walk in....

Why if it isn't Mr Boss and not V. But his wife.

He looks at me and trys to act like it's a happy coincidence. I sit down. Tell him it's my 21st. He buys me a beer as a gift and...

I introduce myself to his wife and tell her how he treated me. Talking about how I would cover the deli counter almost every shift for half an hour and...

"No matter how many times I tried telling Me Boss I wouldn't have to cover deli, if he and V weren't having their daily locked door meeting in his office"

She looked at him. Looked at me. And couldn't say a word.

It could be read as s__tty. But his wife was super polite and friendly and not in that s__tty southern religious style. But a genuinely nice person.

I'm glad I could help pull the wool to let her know her husband is a complete garbage person.

Edit: Thanks for the awards. WTH do I with Reddit gold? I got other stories like this Should I post them? Obviously with way more periods.

This story hit with the exact energy of running into someone who once made your life miserable… and suddenly realizing they don’t hold any power anymore.

You can almost feel the shift-the old boss acting friendly, the Redditor calmly sipping a 21st-birthday beer, and the wife politely waiting for conversation.

I couldn’t help thinking about how small towns have a way of revealing the truth eventually, no matter how many office doors someone locks.

It left me wondering why some people gamble so casually with lives that aren’t theirs.

Which leads right into the bigger question: why do workplace affairs and abuse of power show up so often together?

Workplace affairs don’t happen in a vacuum – they usually follow patterns tied to power, accountability, and emotional boundaries.

In this case, the boss placed the Redditor in an impossible situation: covering the deli counter because the responsible employee was absent, then getting scolded for doing exactly what customers needed.

Psychologists say this double-standard tactic is common among supervisors who feel entitled to break rules themselves while punishing others for far smaller issues.

According to a research review published in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, workplace affairs often overlap with poor leadership behaviors, including “moral disengagement,” where a person convinces themselves that their actions don’t hurt anyone.

That mindset could explain how the boss justified disappearing into his office while expecting flawless work from a teenager juggling two stations alone.

Dr. Ramani Durvasula, a clinical psychologist who studies narcissistic workplace dynamics, writes in Psychology Today

“People in power sometimes assume the rules don’t apply to them. They create a reality in which their comfort matters most.”

Her insight matches the boss’s pattern – ignoring his own responsibilities, shifting blame, and firing the worker when the weather simply didn’t cooperate with his personal schedule.

As for revealing the affair? Relationship experts note that secrecy erodes stability long before betrayal is exposed.

The Gottman Institute highlights research showing that couples who hide major behaviors, even non-romantic ones, experience significantly lower trust and emotional safety.

From that lens, the wife wasn’t blindsided by a stranger; she was already living with unexplained gaps, excuses, and inconsistencies. This moment simply handed her clarity.

And the Redditor’s role? He didn’t make accusations, attack, or embellish.

He simply told the truth about how her husband treated employees and what was happening behind closed doors.

The real message rings clear through the story: sometimes the smallest bit of honesty reveals the biggest cracks in someone else’s façade.

And when those cracks have been forming for years, it doesn’t take much for the whole structure to collapse.

Here’s how people reacted to the post:

Users didn’t hold back their thoughts, and nearly everyone applauded the way the truth came out.

koolman2 − V entirely misunderstood the job of “meat packer”.

CandylandCanada − What kind of moron gives an employee grief because the employee is essentially covering for the moron while the moron carries on an affair? \this guy

aitfaenthusiast2312 − Good job. A beer is no compensation at all.

A lot of users emphasized that the wife deserved to know and that the Redditor didn’t break anything that wasn’t already damaged.

[Reddit User] − Dang I could imagine finding out like that must have sucked. But at least she found out and hopefully got out 👍

oldvikingbas − I had a boss once who was a complete d__k. .. r__ist. ...sexist and stupid. He always bragged that he made "momma" get fixed so he could stay...

One day he drove his wife's car to work and I put some condoms in the glove box and in his coat pocket.

A week or so later he said his wife caught him cheating so he came clean and confessed to his many affairs, she divorced him

DavidDAmaya − You didn’t ruin his marriage. You helped her divorce. You the hero here.

Others cheered the timing, calling it justified, satisfying, and long overdue.

SMITHSIDEBAR − You did the right thing. Good on you. Petty? Not a damn chance, you took your shot.

indigowulf − Reminds me of the time I ran into my (now ex) bf out on a date. I introduced myself to her friendly as could be, watching him squirm...

Asked her how long they'd been together - 6 weeks.

So, I started rattling off the nights he spent at my house, and said "Funny, because he was F'ing me this night and this night and this night, oh and...

Turned and walked out, smiling that evil smile as I heard the screaming start.

I didn't look back, because a true bad ass never looks back at the explosion they set off.

Top_File_8547 − That's truly amazing that your boss was the cause of your not being able to do your job and gave you s__t about it and fired you because...

EvadesBans − She looked at him. Looked at me. And couldn't say a word. "Anyway, thanks for the beer, boss."

Few shared their own stories of exposing unfaithful partners and bosses, celebrating the poetic justice.

Sweaty_Term5961 − I'd've played more 'innocent'. (Assorted pleasantries, then. ..) "New girlfriend (turns on fan, sits back)?"

ShowMeTheTrees − I hope nice wife was wise enough to not believe his lies later than evening when he said you were delusional, lying, fired for cause, etc. Liars lie....

[Reddit User] − That is awesome

The rest added humor to the thread, joking about “packing the wrong deli counter” and how the story escalated from grocery duty to uncovering major workplace drama.

threerottenbranches − Boss was just packing his own meat in the wrong deli counter. Sounds like he might have gotten fired for it as well.

gizmodriver − I was going to make a childish joke about having the meat room to yourself, but then I kept reading. Yikes.

This story blends the best parts of small-town timing, quiet confidence, and long-overdue truth.

The boss thought he could get away with unfair treatment and private “meetings,” but life has a funny way of bringing people face-to-face with their own consequences.

Whether you see the Redditor as petty, heroic, or simply honest, one thing is clear: his former boss underestimated the ripple effects of his choices.

What’s your take on this? Would you have said something, or kept the peace and walked away? Drop your thoughts below!
