Will there be a second season of Squid Game after it became the unexpected Netflix success that blasted through streaming viewers in 2021?
Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk said on the red carpet at Saturday’s PGA Awards event that there is nothing to show just yet, but he is hard at work on concepts for the second season of the South Korean murderous survival thriller.
“There will be more great games, that’s all I can say. I’m just still brainstorming and collecting the ideas for Season 2. I haven’t even started with the writing yet.” Hwang remarked.
Are there going to be any flashbacks? Is it true that the characters from Season 1 are no longer with us? Can we expect to see some of the cast members return in some capacity?
“No, because most of them are dead,” Hwang joked. “I’ll try something to bring them back to Season 2”
Let’s say maybe she has a twin sister, you’ll see,” he stated on the red carpet, gesturing to HoYeon Jung, who portrays Kang Sae-byeok in Season 1 of Squid Game.
“I could change my hair color. Let’s do a little like plastic surgery,” HoYeon joked.
“Yeah in a way because who can expect this kind of success” Hwang responded when asked whether he was shocked by the show’s overwhelming popularity. “I tried hard to make a successful show, but I never expected this much success. It’s a surprise.”
The program earned three SAG Awards this year and has been the most-watched Netflix video ever since its September 17 premiere.
