Kate Hudson adores her family, and it’s easy to see why! With Hollywood legends Goldie Hawn as her mom and Kurt Russell—whom she affectionately calls ‘Pa’—as her stepdad, her family is a source of strength and joy. In a recent interview, the Almost Famous star opened up about how her famous parents’ relationship has evolved as they’ve gotten older and shared insights into her own family life.
#1. A Stronger Bond After 40 Years
During an appearance on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show, Kate spoke about the long-lasting relationship between Goldie and Kurt, who have been together for over four decades. As they’ve grown older, their bond has become even stronger.
“They’ve been together 40-plus years. They are the center of our family,” Kate said, revealing how the couple’s love has only deepened with time. “Now, as they’re getting a little bit older, their relationship is so cute … I can’t stand it. Kurt just adores my mom. He loves her so much.”
#2. Living Close to Family
Kate lives just a few doors down from Goldie and Kurt in Los Angeles, residing in her childhood home. In the interview, she admitted that she’s always been very “codependent” with her mom, a closeness that still exists today.
“Our family is just nuts — in the best way,” Kate shared, emphasizing the fun, vibrant energy they all share. “Everyone is so different, but everyone wants to enjoy their life. There’s a lot of joie de vivre. We’ve got this life force in our family, and it’s so great.”
#3. Kate’s Own Family Life
In addition to her close relationship with her parents, Kate is a doting mom of three. She shares her oldest son Ryder, 20, with ex-husband Chris Robinson, her son Bingham, 13, with ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy, and her daughter Rani Rose, 4, with her fiancé Danny Fujikawa.
Goldie and Kurt are incredibly close to all of their grandchildren. Between Kate and her brother Oliver Hudson, who has three kids, and their half-brother Wyatt Russell, who has two sons, the couple has eight grandchildren in total.
Goldie previously told Australian Women’s Weekly about how important family is to her, saying, “A good family is the answer to happiness. I look at our kids and grandchildren, and there’s nothing in the world that could make me as proud as I am of all of them. Being a grandmother is amazing. It brings incredible joy.”
#4. Party Time With Goldie and Kurt
When it comes to family gatherings, the Hudson-Russell clan knows how to have fun. Kate, who loves hosting parties, told Howard Stern that she enforces a no-phone rule to make sure everyone stays present.
“I throw the best parties because I don’t let people bring in their phones. It’s about a real mix of people, and you’ve got to have the ones who are going to go nuts, the ones people are going to go home and talk about,” she said.
As for who’s the life of the party? Kate didn’t hesitate: “Goldie and Kurt! They’re the most fun! They love a good party.”
#5. Reflecting on Family and Love
Kate’s love and admiration for Goldie and Kurt is clear, and their relationship continues to inspire her. “They’ve been through it all and still love each other,” she said, adding that they are “couple goals” for her.
Family has always been at the heart of Kate’s world, and whether it’s their joyous gatherings or quiet moments at home, it’s clear the love shared between them is what keeps their bond unbreakable.
