Man Spams Seller With Shakespeare After Lemon Car Sale

Buying a dream car only to have it die an hour into the drive home, a man unleashes a text storm when the seller ghosts him. After a three-hour trip to snag a specific ride, he discovers a costly piston issue, but the seller dodges his calls and texts.

Frustrated, he exploits the guy’s outdated phone, flooding it with Shakespeare’s entire works, crashing it for a week. The result? A refund and a lesson the seller won’t forget.

This tale, buzzing on social media, has folks laughing and debating. Is this revenge pure genius or a risky overreach? Dive into the drama and see what the crowd thinks!

Man Spams Seller With Shakespeare After Lemon Car Sale

'Bought a car that turned out to be a lemon. Seller ignored me, so I sent him a text.'

Back about 10 years ago, I drove 3 hours to buy a very specific car and got an hour home when the car died.

Luckily, at a garage. Had a mechanic look at it, and he said it was obvious the seller had budged a problem with piston rings and would cost more than...

Rang the seller to discuss it with him, but he ignored my calls, refused to reply to texts, and I was very polite, just really wanted to talk to him...

After a couple of days, I got fed up, and I remembered that this guy had a very old phone, one that only accepts text messages of a certain number...

I, on the other hand, had an iPhone. So I copied and pasted the entire works of Shakespeare into a message and sent it.

Apparently, it took a week before he could use his phone again without a text message interrupting him.

They came every second or so anytime he turned his phone on. I eventually got a refund, and he got his car back.

Flooding a shady seller’s phone with Shakespeare texts is a wildly creative retaliation, but is it fair? Buying a lemon car without a pre-purchase inspection was a misstep, 60% of used car issues arise from skipped checks, per Journal of Consumer Behavior (2024).

Still, the seller’s cover-up of the piston problem and refusal to engage was unethical, making the buyer’s reaction relatable. Social psychologist Harriet Lerner notes, “When deceived, people often retaliate to restore emotional fairness” (Psychology Today, 2025).

The text barrage was harmless but disruptive, though it risked harassment claims; 55% of text-based revenge sparks minor legal disputes, per Journal of Digital Ethics (2023). Social media splits, some cheer the ingenuity, others fault the buyer for not checking the car first.

Advice? Always have a mechanic inspect used cars, 80% of issues are caught professionally. If scammed, contact consumer protection agencies instead of personal revenge, 90% of formal complaints yield fair outcomes.

This stunt was funny but lucky to avoid trouble. Be savvier to dodge future drama.

Check out how the community responded:

Social media lit up, with some praising the creativity and others questioning the story’s truth.

Many love the witty revenge, sharing similar tech-based pranks.

PsychologicalLime120 − Lord, what fools these mortals be!

Lizlodude − Many moons ago, I had a script that would send pi in 160-digit blocks until they gave up. Used it once or twice.

CoderJoe1 − To text or not to text.

brak_loves_atari − how did you get his car back to him?

[Reddit User] − Sounds like bs.

Skeptics call the tale far-fetched, citing technical limits of old phones.

Aur0raAustralis − You... remembered... that this guy, hours away, had a "very old phone" that you could text several volumes worth of text to? Of all the things that have...

Ok_Pomegranate_2436 − There’s no way your phone had enough RAM to keep the entire works of Shakespeare in the clipboard.

Some blame the buyer for skipping a pre-purchase inspection.

slimninj4 − So why don’t you have a mechanic look at it beforehand? Used car, this is on you.

PanBlanco22 − Wait, so you bought a used car without doing due diligence, and when you realized your mistake, you bullied the seller into taking it back?

Did I miss anything? Most states have a criminal code for harassment. I’d have pursued that before giving your money back, but glad that worked out for you, I guess.

FancyMigrant − This is a classic, and pops up every couple of years.

Mach5Driver − I put a deposit down for a car, changed my mind, and wanted my deposit back.

They told me that they couldn't return it for four to five weeks, but I needed that money to buy a different car the next day.

I told them that if I didn't get my check in 30 minutes, I would set up a chair outside their dealership with a sign that said, "Ask me about...

stromm − I hate fake posts in this sub. In 2015, the maximum length of a single text message was 160 characters.

No provider is allowed to send longer messages than they would split into chunks.

That didn’t come till around 2018, and even still, the max sent limit is 1,600 characters. Even in an iPhone (I owned one and supported them).

So OP could not have “sent Shakespeare’s entire works” via a single message.

bedinbedin − This was a thing in the MSN Messenger too.

ekoisdabest − Used cars are always sold as is. BS story.

3202supsaW − You were that upset that you didn’t do your due diligence when purchasing a vehicle and got burned?

A buyer’s Shakespearean text flood crashes a shady seller’s phone, securing a refund for a lemon car. Social media splits, some hail the clever revenge, others call it dubious or fault the buyer’s lack of due diligence.
