The Dallas Cowboys are ramping up preparations for their matchup against the San Francisco 49ers following a bye week that allowed them to reflect on some early-season setbacks.
In a recent radio appearance, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones shared candid thoughts about the team, discussing everything from the decision not to pursue running back Derrick Henry to updates on injured players. Among his comments, Jones did not hold back when critiquing head coach Mike McCarthy and the team’s offensive performance.
On Wednesday, McCarthy addressed Jones’ remarks during a media session before practice. He acknowledged the criticism regarding the team’s play-calling and offensive schemes.
“I talk to Jerry all the time. We’ve had time to go through the self-scout. I didn’t see the comments specifically. But I don’t think we have bad concepts and bad plays. But I’ll go back and check,” McCarthy said.
He took full responsibility for the offense not meeting expectations. “We’re not where we want to be. That’s clear, and that’s ultimately my responsibility, and I’m fully aware of that. We’re very diligent. We’re on top of what we want to do,” he added.
With the Cowboys looking to bounce back, they hope to refine their offensive strategy after the bye week.
Kickoff between the Cowboys and 49ers is set for 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC, with live streaming available on Peacock. Fans are eager to see if the adjustments made will help the team regain their offensive momentum.
