Neighbor’s Screaming And Late-Night Parties Spark “Annoying” Revenge From Next Door

Dealing with a neighbor who is rude, disruptive, and downright inappropriate can make life unbearable.

One person living next to such a neighbor was pushed to their breaking point after witnessing a series of disturbing actions and enduring constant late-night noise.

From screaming at his own family to smirking and making inappropriate gestures, the neighbor’s behavior was hard to ignore.

To retaliate, the OP decided to engage in a series of small, annoying pranks.

'Neighbour is a complete a__hole to me and his own family so I do little annoying things?'

First, he yells at his family. Screams and throws stuff. Threatens his 4-year-old daughter, who yells back.

He's not hit them as far as I know. He does workouts outside on gym equipment that is not meant to be outside. It's rusting.

When I see him out there he does s__ual gestures and motions, and smirks at me. I avoid being visible to him just because of it.

He has his friends over to watch football, and because the driveway is steep, his friends park outside his house and block us in.

So I went out there with the seed and threw it all over is friends' cars. I'm in Australia and lots of cockatoos and gallahs come and s__t where they...

He drinks and has his music playing til 3 am. So while they have their hangover morning (Wife and kids aren't home).

At 6 am, I point my speakers at his house and turn on the high-pitched dog whistle app just enough to hear it.

I heard them yelling, "What's that ringing noise fuuuuuuuck!". They start screaming and leave with their s__t covered cars.

The situation described involves a series of retaliatory actions taken by the OP against a neighbor exhibiting disruptive and inappropriate behavior. While the OP’s frustration is understandable, it’s crucial to consider the potential legal and ethical implications of such actions.

Retaliatory actions, even when provoked, can escalate conflicts and may have unintended legal consequences.

As noted by the Law Society of New South Wales, “If your neighbour keeps making noise even after you have asked them to stop, you may be able to bring proceedings in a Local Court or, in some circumstances, the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal.”

This underscores the importance of addressing disputes through appropriate legal channels rather than personal retaliation.

Engaging in retaliatory behavior can lead to an escalation of the conflict, potentially resulting in legal action or further disturbances.

The Australian Government’s Department of Justice advises that “If you are being disturbed, usually the best thing to do is to ask your neighbour to reduce their noise or to avoid making noise at certain times of the day.”

This approach promotes peaceful resolution and helps maintain a harmonious living environment.

When direct communication fails, seeking professional mediation can be an effective way to resolve disputes.

The Queensland Law Handbook highlights that “Mediation is a way of helping neighbours settle their issues of concern without having to go to court. It is a voluntary process.”

Mediation provides a neutral platform for both parties to express their concerns and work towards a mutually agreeable solution.

It’s important to be aware of legal protections and reporting mechanisms available for dealing with disruptive neighbors. Legal Aid NSW provides guidance on making noise complaints and outlines the steps to take if the issue persists.

Additionally, the Queensland Government offers resources on how to complain about noisy neighbors and the appropriate channels to address such issues.

Check out how the community responded:

These commenters wholeheartedly embraced the OP’s petty revenge.

TootsNYC − Throw the bird feed on his gym equipment.

Alpaca_Lips_ − Berries first for the birds, then the seed. Their poo will look like a crime scene.

CoderJoe1 − You've planted the seeds of your vengeance.

These Redditors cheered on the OP’s approach but encouraged even more direct action.

UnrealCrapEveryDay − Nice!! Keep it up! He probably will not change, but I hope he does.

kmflushing − Nice on the petty, but next time he's screaming at the 4-year-old or wife, call the cops on them.

G8RTOAD − Fellow Aussie here. I applaud your pettiness, the galahs and cockatoos would’ve had a field day on those cars.

Mozartrelle − While my son was house-sitting, the neighbours were still partying at 1 am.

He told me he found their Bluetooth speaker on his device list, connected to it, and proceeded to play excited chimpanzee sounds while listening with glee to them trying to...

They were smart/sober enough to turn it off & on again, he carried on with chimp sounds 🤣

These users recommended escalating the pettiness by capturing the neighbor’s behavior on video.

PotatoesPancakes − The next time he makes those gestures at you, film him. Make it obvious.

Make a comment about your YouTube (or whatever) channel, even if you don't have one (he doesn't know that).

Since it's a public space, he can't say anything about privacy.

deedubfry − Bee-bees on the lawn. If he mowed the lawn, it’s like being shot in the legs repeatedly with a bee bee gun.

CakeForCthulu − Get someone to record him making gestures at you where he can't see. Find him on social media.

Make an anonymous account and share the video with everyone he knows. Might be that everyone he knows is just as s__tty, but an employer or parent could see and...

These commenters also had their own creative ideas.

[Reddit User] − Remove the wheels and axle from the wheely bins. Watch him lose his mind.

AffectionateMarch394 − Does he use a Bluetooth speaker? Connect to it and f__k with his music. Put on kid TV show songs. Coco melon is the worst.

[Reddit User] − Also, if the cockies turn up expecting seed and there isn’t any, they will trash the joint.  They’re vindictive.

These Redditors shared personal anecdotes about how to subtly get back at annoying neighbors.

appleblossom1962 − Lol, I can remember when my husband used to go out on the weekends and get drunk.

They stop by a fast food joint, and he eats and comes home and crawls into bed, smelling of booze.

If I had so much as twitched a finger, he would yell at me and lean over and get sick all over the floor.

I gather up my blankets and my pillow and go downstairs and sleep. In the morning, before he was awake, lying in bed, hungover.

I decided it would be the perfect time to vacuum in the hallway. Fortunately, our bedroom floors were linoleum. I made him clean that stuff up.

GSK1972Chi − I have a friend who is an insomniac, so he’ll be in the alley next to his ahole neighbors and oops, tipped over the trash.

Oops, tipped again, picking it back up. He’ll do it at 2 or 3 in the morning when all the lights are out. It’s subtle stuff that he tends to...

The OP’s decision to retaliate in an escalating feud with their neighbor brings up some difficult questions. Was this petty revenge justified, or did it cross a line? It’s easy to empathize with the OP’s frustration, but could the situation have been handled differently?

Would a conversation have been more effective, or was this behavior the only way to stand up to someone so disrespectful? How do you think you’d handle a neighbor like this? Share your hot takes below!
