Warning: This story contains spoilers for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
Have you ever felt upset and a little angry when your favorite movie characters died? Though we all know it only happens on the screen, we can’t help but feel sad and unfair for our biases. However, a character’s death is often used as a plot twist in the film that leads to the climax of the film. Sometimes, we understand that it is necessary and plausible despite our terrible feelings. In fact, we’re not the only ones who hate such a plot. In many cases, even the actor playing the unfortunate character also rejects to rest in peace in their movie.
Do you know the upcoming Marvel production – “Black Panther”: Wakanda forever? The flick’s plot twist involves the death of Queen Ramonda, played by Angela Bassett. The 64-year-old actress revealed that she had a row with the film’s director, Ryan Coogler, over the Queen’s death.

According to the script, the Wakanda royal matriarch was killed during the fight with the villain Namor (Tenoch Huerta) in an attempt to protect another character. The director explained that the monarchy’s sacrifice creates a chance for Princess Shuri (Letitia Wright) to rise as the leader of Wakanda.

However, Bassett did not accept the prospect. “I objected,” she said. “Yeah, I was like, ‘Ryan, what are you doing? Why? You will rue the day! You will rue the demise of [Ramonda]. People are gonna be so upset.”
“He was like, ‘Angela, I know, I know, but look, to die is not really to die in this world. It doesn’t really have to mean that,’” recalled Bassett. “All kinds of crazy things happen.”

The final result of the row was still unknown, so even the actress was unsure whether she would reappear at the end of the movie. “At the end of [‘Black Panther’], I didn’t know if I was coming back. I certainly hoped I would. I didn’t die,” recalled Bassett.

Bassett added that right after Chadwick Boseman’s sudden 2020 death, Coogler sent her a letter. “Ramonda now has got to step up,” Bassett remembered the letter saying. “She’s got to be there for Shuri; she’s queen. You’re just a very important place in this movie.”
