Following his eight-season tenure on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Emmy winner André Braugher has been cast as a series regular in the forthcoming sixth season of the Paramount+ courtroom drama – The Good Fight.
Braugher, who played Ri’Chard Lane on Homicide, will play a showman lawyer and rainmaker who is imposed on Liz (Audra McDonald) as a new name partner in The Good Fight. Ri’Chard is a force of nature, a jumble of intellect, geniality, faith, and exuberant hedonism. In a nutshell, he’s a headache.
“Our dream of an actor is always someone who can mix comedy and drama equally, and André Braugher is exactly that,” said Robert and Michelle King, series co-creators, showrunners, and executive producers. “His work on Men of a Certain Age, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Homicide has been amazing and funny. We’re ecstatic that he finally has time in his schedule to come play.”
Braugher, who recently became accessible after a long haul on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, joins The Good Fight a year after another award-winning seasoned star, Mandy Patinkin, joined the cast last season.
The Good Fight Previous Season Quick Recap
Adrian Boseman (Delroy Lindo) and Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo) left Season 5, while Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) was promoted to partner of Reddick & Associates with Liz Reddick. Meanwhile, Hal Wackner (Patinkin), a regular Chicagoan who chooses to open his own courtroom in the back of a copy shop, becomes involved with Marissa (Sarah Steele) and the organization.
With everything from Roe v. Wade to voting rights to Cold War aggressive actions coming back in the sixth season, Diane feels like she’s going insane, having difficulties with an unsettling sense of déjà vu. Elsewhere, the attorneys at Reddick & Associates worry if the violence they’re witnessing all around them signals the start of a civil war.
In 2017 and 2018, The Good Fight received Emmy nominations for Outstanding Original Main Title Music and Outstanding Music and Lyrics, respectively. CBS Studios, in collaboration with Scott Free Productions and King Size Productions, is producing the series. Paramount Global Content Distribution distributes The Good Fight internationally.
Braugher most recently wrapped an eight-season tenure as Captain Ray Holt on NBC‘s successful sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine, for which he received two Critics Choice Awards and four Emmy nominations. Baytown Outlaws, Salt, Passengers, The Mist, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and Poseidon are just a few of his major films. WME and attorney Keith Klevan represent him.
