Ron Jeremy, a former porn star, was charged with 33 counts of rape and physical abuse by L.A. County District Attorney George Gascón last summer. The indictment for 2021 includes 21 people, much as the previous set of accusations in October 2020.
Prosecutors believe that the allegations date back to Bill Clinton‘s presidency and up to 2013. According to the indictment, the alleged victims’ ages vary from 15 to 51. Jeremy has been incarcerated in downtown’s Twin Towers Correctional Facility since his arrest in June 2020, and if proven guilty of rape, he may spend hundreds of years in prison.
A court paused the former porn star’s trial on numerous rape accusations this morning, just six weeks before it was set to begin, so the ex-porn star could undergo mental tests.
The findings of the two examinations ordered by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge George Lomeli will be discussed during a psychiatric hearing on April Fool’s Day, and then again on April 19. At today’s early morning hearing, the judge said he expected “evaluations are done by a psychiatrist on either side about the problems of competency” would provide clarity to Jeremy’s real mental health and the case’s future after hearing attorneys and court authorities describe the accused “incoherent.”
Initially scheduled to examine a defense petition to divide Jeremy’s case into 21 individual trials, today’s hearing in DTLA took an unexpected turn when attorney Stuart Goldfarb revealed a recent chat with his 69-year-old client. “He was unable to determine who I was and wouldn’t accommodate both myself and the bailiff to fit into the wheelchair to come down here,” the defense attorney explained. Jeremy has entered a not guilty plea to all counts. Today, nothing has changed.
