Summary:
- Shawn Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine’s director, reveals that newcomer fans won’t have to watch every previous MCU title to catch up with the threequel.
- Deadpool & Wolverine is also rumored to introduce a new concept called “nexus beings” into the MCU.
- Deadpool creator Rob Liefield teases that the biggest twist of the movie will come in the post-credits scene.
Deadpool & Wolverine is slated to be the eleventh release in the Marvel Studios’ Multiverse Saga and the thirty-fourth overall MCU film. This doesn’t even touch on the plethora of TV series the studio has been launching lately, like WandaVision or the two Loki seasons.
Therefore, new Marvel fans can find it a bit intimidating to digest all these titles so they can understand what happens in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. However, it seems that they won’t have to.
During an interview with The Associated Press, Levy emphasized the accessibility of Deadpool & Wolverine, stating how fans “won’t have to do any homework” prior to watching the movie.
“I was a good student in school. I’ll do my homework as an adult. But I am definitely not looking to do homework when I go to the movies. I very much made this film with certainly a healthy respect and gratitude towards the rabid fan base that has peak fluency in the mythology and lore of these characters and this world. But I didn’t want to presume that. This movie is built for entertainment, with no obligation to come prepared with prior research,” said Levy, who also recently revealed something cool about Real Steel 2.
While Deadpool & Wolverine stands alone for casual viewers, it could still carve a significant niche within the Multiverse Saga. Insider Daniel Richtman, aka DanielRPK, hints that the film will explore the idea that each universe has a crucial hero whose existence is tied directly to the survival of their universe, known in the comics as nexus beings. It remains to be seen how this concept will be woven into the broader MCU tapestry.
The specifics of Deadpool & Wolverine‘s plot are still largely secret. Trailers have only shown that Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, is recruited by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) to undertake a universe-saving mission alongside a variant of Wolverine, brought to life once more by Hugh Jackman, who has seemingly destroyed his own universe.
The film is also expected to be a nostalgia trip, with several actors from the previous X-Men films and Fox’s universe reprising their roles. The film’s villain is also revealed to be Cassandra Nova, Charles Xavier’s malevolent twin. Nova will be portrayed by Emma Corrin in the movie.
Marvel enthusiasts have even more reasons to be excited, as Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld teases that the most astonishing elements of the film might not be unveiled until the post-credits scene.
