Student Says She Wanted Her Friend’s Attacker to Suffer, Then Admits How Far the Revenge Campaign Really Went

When someone you care about is seriously harmed, anger can make revenge feel like the only form of justice available.

But even when that anger comes from loyalty and grief, retaliation can cross lines that are difficult to defend later.

One woman is reflecting on what happened when she was 17 and learned that a close friend had been sexually assaulted by a boy at their school.

Her friend was too afraid to pursue the matter further, and the poster became furious at what she saw as a complete lack of consequences.

She and others began humiliating and harassing the boy at school, and her own behavior eventually became both verbal and physical.

Even after staff warned her to stop, she continued because seeing him appear unaffected felt unbearable.

Scroll down to see why she still feels conflicted about what she did years later.

'I bullied my friends r4pist so hard that he attempted suicide multiple times?'

Back when we were around 17, my very close friend was "dating" this guy

in our year who i'd been very suspicious of. I was never supportive of them,

but kept it to myself. I was clueless to why she liked him, as he was

objectively unattractive, overweight, had terrible hygiene, etc. He was

aware I completely disapproved just by how I looked at him with such

disdain. He would avoid me at all costs and my friend told me he was afraid

of me (for some reason. I was a terribly anorexic, frail teenage girl, he was a big guy!)

A few months in, she confessed to our friends and I that while they were

out on a date, he had pushed her into a public bathroom and raped her. She

was a super sweet, quiet girl who never did anyone any harm and was too

scared to speak up for herself. He had forced her to give him head, and

then let him do the deed to her. She went home and sobbed her eyes out,

and he texted her trying to convince her not to tell her parents or friends

because it would be "selfish" and an i__asion of privacy.

I was absolutely outraged. She was super hesitant to tell police, as she

didn't want to ruin the rest of his life. I insisted he saw no value in her life,

so she should ruin his. She still, did not go through with it. We told the

school, showed evidence, and they alone supported her. But after a bit of

her healing, we all as a friend group would pick on him and make fun of him at school.

He had no friends in our year because of his predatory behavior and

sketchy reputation, so there was no one to defend him. Our teachers were

absolutely not in support of him and were just waiting for him to s__ew up

so they could punish him. I'm thankful for that, atleast.

I would throw things at his head if he walked infront of me. If we walked

down stairs, i'd push him. I stole multiple things from his bag during class

and threw them away. We spread what he did around the entire school, to

the point he wouldn't come anymore. Some people tried backing him up,

so we told the school and the school (aka our woman principal) would

punish them. We'd call him "mama carmen" as he sort of was built like a

curvy 53 year old latina mom, and he would try not to cry every time we'd shout it at him.

When he saw me he would literally sprint to the other side of the oval, it

was crazy. He was a c__ard and hated when people picked on him, but was

fine with doing it to my quieter friend. He never once stood up for himself,

he'd just given me dirty looks. This continued for a few months before he

just completely stopped attending school. Then, a guy from a younger year

told me he was not at home but in hospital for attempted suicide.

When he came back he started having sessions with a counselor and talked

to our teachers. I was brought into the office to have a talk with our

deputy, and they advised me to quit abusing him both verbally and physically.

I stopped for a bit but eventually, couldn't really help myself. Seeing him

happy at school was disgusting. His face made me upset, as I really really

cared for my friend and was seeing how much of a toll this rape had taken

on her. She was struggling terribly mentally, she didn't deserve that.

So I took his phone (which was in a pouch, what our school required) and

threw it down a g__ter. He was mad, but obviously couldn't do anything

about it. He never reported me (I think he attempted to, but thanks to the

public school system and his reputation, no one cared). I would cut off

small chunks of his hair during class and throw them at him. I was almost

suspended for this (didn't happen tho! Bullying was an issue at my school)

We spilled milk all through his bag once. We, being I did. Then, this was

totally unrelated to me, but a "popular" guy stole his waterbottle and

pissed in it. This was back in 2007 so cyberbullying was less common and we had to get properly creative.

He apparently tried to commit again, and thats when he changed schools.

Do I regret it? A bit. I feel bad for his family who mustve had to deal with

this at the time. But yeah, definitely haven't told anyone about this in a while.

edit: Oh, and fun fact. In his 20's later on he was jailed for a different

account of s__ual a__ault on a minor (specifically 15). Don't know the

details, but speaks volumes about what kind of guy he will always be.

Edit 2: Also, not too relevant but when it first got out, he tried to spin it on

her and say she raped him. Idk what he was trying to do.

Sometimes loving someone who has been harmed creates an anger so intense that protection can slowly turn into punishment.

That seems to be what happened here.

The friend was devastated by what happened to someone she cared deeply about, and her rage came from watching a quiet, vulnerable person struggle with trauma while the boy who assaulted her continued walking through school as if nothing had happened.

Her instinct was to make sure he felt consequences. The problem is that those consequences gradually became sustained humiliation and physical abuse.

Psychologically, her behavior makes more sense when viewed as secondary trauma mixed with moral outrage.

She was not the person assaulted, but she was close enough to the survivor to feel helpless, furious, and obsessed with restoring some sense of justice.

Throwing things, cutting his hair, destroying belongings, and publicly humiliating him may have given her brief relief because action felt better than powerlessness.

But retaliation also allowed her anger to become its own behavior rather than remaining support for her friend.

There is another uncomfortable perspective here. The fact that he later committed another sexual offense does not retroactively make everything done to him healthy or justified.

His later conviction may confirm that concerns about his predatory behavior were serious, but it does not turn bullying into treatment, accountability, or justice.

Both truths can exist at once: he could have caused devastating harm, and the campaign against him could still have crossed dangerous lines.

The most helpful response would have been continuing to believe the survivor, helping her access professional support, documenting evidence, respecting her choices about reporting, and maintaining protective boundaries at school.

The aunt-like protector role became something else once punishment itself became satisfying.

Her regret does not require sympathy for the offender or denial of what he did. It means recognizing that justice and revenge are different processes.

She can continue believing her friend deserved protection while also acknowledging that pushing someone downstairs, destroying belongings, or contributing to repeated suicidal crises was not a healthy form of accountability.

The more constructive lesson is not that she cared too much.

It is that caring deeply still requires limits, especially when anger begins deciding what punishment another person deserves.

Take a look at the comments from fellow users:

These commenters supported the OP’s actions, especially from a protective parent’s perspective

YellowyBeholder − Man, this is such a hard case, but then I look at my baby

daughter who's just 2 now, and will go to school, and highschool and she

will face so much s__t there and as a father. .. It's going to sound very bad

and cruel but I would be happy with a punisher class mate of her like you, that's the sad truth. ..

Head_Wasabi7359 − This is a boast and not a confession but I can't say I disagree with you

ArmEnvironmental8457 − Wish I could bully him now

These Redditors strongly condemned the rapist and felt his actions justified the OP’s retaliation

TimelessEggplant69 − Rapists don't deserve peace, since they rob the

innocent of theirs. I'd buy you a drink if I could

MesugakiFujiwara − F__k him, you tried to help a victim by messing with a

demon. No harm done, he will learn his lesson one day and face his actions. Until then, do what must be done.

krystalizer01 − Na you did good. I get why you’d feel some guilt. F__k that guy

cousins_and_cattle − Nah, f__k that guy.

These commenters argued that the OP’s behavior was comparatively mild and praised them for confronting someone they viewed as deserving consequences

ovelhaloira − Compared to what he did, your actions were pretty mild.

ThatWhichTheyDefend − Doing what the justice system cannot and will not. Well done.

julz1789 − What color is your cape ? Do you wear a mask when you fight crime ? Because you’re a hero.

This group emphasized how strongly parents may react when imagining their own daughter experiencing similar abuse

what_the_funk_ − I ain’t mad at ya babes. I hit the uno reverse on a girl in

school when she made fun of my friend after her dad offed himself. I

promise you I can be meaner. Seems I am in good company.

10ballplaya − I have a daughter and she is almost 7. I read this story I already imagined myself going to jail.

Her rage came from wanting to protect a friend who had been violated and then left carrying the damage.

But once the retaliation became sustained physical and psychological abuse, it crossed into something dangerous too.

His later conviction may confirm that he remained a predator, but it does not make every act of revenge harmless in hindsight.

The school should have protected the victim and handled him properly long before students felt they had to become the punishment.

Do you think her actions were understandable vigilante justice, or did she go too far even against someone who had done something horrific?
