Summary:
- Popular songstress Taylor Swift is reportedly landing a role in the upcoming MCU title Deadpool & Wolverine, portraying the superhero The Blonde Phantom.
- The artist has been linked to the MCU several times before as either Lady Deadpool or Dazzler.
- Director Shawn Levy has neither confirmed nor denied the existence of Swift in the movie.
The spotlight belongs to Taylor Swift again, as the artist is potentially making her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. The exact details of her role remain shrouded in mystery, though some rumors believe that the Pennsylvania native has found her role in the MCU.
Insider Daniel Richtman recently hinted that Swift might portray the Blonde Phantom after her meeting with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, according to ComicBookMovie. This wouldn’t be the first time Marvel considered the role for their cinematic realm; Scarlett Johansson was also in the running for the role back in the late 2000s, before landing the iconic role of Black Widow in Iron Man 2.
The Blonde Phantom, real name Louise Grant, debuted in Marvel’s Golden Age in 1946’s All Select Comics #11. Created by legends Stan Lee and Syd Shores, Louise initially worked as a secretary for private detective Mark Mason, who’s oblivious to her other identity.
Behind the scenes, she transformed into the Blonde Phantom to assist her boss, tackling crime in a glamorous red evening gown, paired with a black domino mask and high heels, all while equipped with a .45-caliber pistol. Despite lacking superpowers, her athletic prowess and martial arts skills made her a formidable opponent against evildoers. Basically, she’s a much more flamboyant version of Black Widow.
Rumors of Swift’s involvement in Deadpool & Wolverine have been circulating for a while. Director Shawn Levy played coy when asked about her potential role as another character, Dazzler,
“I can’t even believe that you would dare ask me a question you know I can’t answer. You know I can’t answer. The proliferation of rumors about who is and isn’t in this movie is fabulous. Because no one will ever know the truth until July 26,” he responded. But, again, if Taylor Swift isn’t in the movie, Levy could have just downright denied it.
Taylor Swift has been linked to several potential roles in Deadpool & Wolverine, including Lady Deadpool and Dazzler. Dazzler, in particular, is a mutant capable of converting sound and light waves into light energy. She’s also a singer-songwriter who rose to fame as a global pop star, incorporating her mutant powers into her performances.
Dazzler’s personality and powers align perfectly with Swift’s real-life persona as a charismatic performer, considering her background as a celebrated singer-songwriter known for her dynamic concerts. Therefore, Marvel fans were caught off guard when Ritchman reported that the songstress was cast into The Blonde Phantom instead.
However, if Swift turns out to be the Blonde Phantom, Marvel may have to reserve the Dazzler role for another artist.
