Teacher Accuses Kid Of Faking Illness, Regrets It When Student Vomits On Her Desk

in Social Issues

Teachers are expected to nurture and support their students, especially when health issues arise. For one young boy with chronic asthma and dermatitis, school was tough enough without his math teacher targeting him.

Convinced he was milking his conditions for special treatment, she never missed a chance to call him out or dock his grades unfairly.

During a crucial test, the boy felt violently ill and tried to follow the school’s bathroom policy, but his teacher wasn’t having it. Her harsh accusations sparked a confrontation that left the classroom stunned. Scroll down to see how this tense moment unfolded.

One Redditor, a sickly elementary school student, faced a teacher’s wrath during a math test when their illness was dismissed as a ploy to skip class

Not the actual photo

"We all know you are faking being sick to avoid the class."?

This happened to me while I was in elementary school.

Our Mrs. math teacher really hated my guts for no reason really.

She would always find an excuse to lower my grades

or blame me for something I didn't do.

I was a pretty sick kid that had bad asthma, dermatitis

and was sickish in general.

Thinking back, I think her hating me had a lot to do with that

as she felt I had "special treatment and privileges".

One day, we were doing a test, and I started feeling very bad.

It came to the point of really needing to puk,e but I held it in

because I knew she wouldn't believe me.

Then I started shaking and kinda puked a bit in my mouth

so I stood up and started to go towards the toilet (we had a rule

that anybody who has to go to the toilet can do so without asking).

She of course stopped me and told me to sit back down.

I tried explaining, but she wouldn't have it.

One girl stood up for me and said something like "he is really pale

and shaking and sweating, I think he needs to go home".

That caused the teacher to go on a 5-minute rant how I'm a spoiled liar who didn't study for the test

and now I'm trying to fool everybody and that I'm taking away their precious test time, and they should hate me for that.

I said I really need to puk,e and she just scoffed, saying

"You ain't going anywhere with your lies, so you might as well do your imaginary puking here".

Yeah... You can guess what happened next.

Not sure if this is compliance because I couldn't hold it in anymore anyway

but I was so happy while doing it.

First, I puked a bit through my arm, and then it all went out.

Across her desk (the grading book was ruined) and all over the floor.

She tried to blame m,e saying that I "threw up by force"

but the principal didn't buy it after the doctor examined me.

Nothing special happened to her, but she never bothered me again.

Teachers hold a duty of care toward all students, including those with chronic conditions like asthma and dermatitis.

In the boy’s case, his math teacher repeatedly docked his grades and accused him of faking illnesses to gain advantages, despite visible symptoms during a test.

When he urgently needed the bathroom to vomit, she blocked him, insisting on “imaginary puking” in class, which led to him doing exactly that on her desk.

Accusing students of faking sickness often stems from frustration with frequent absences or perceived disruptions. Yet experts emphasize that such skepticism can harm vulnerable children.

Pediatric psychologist Dr. Kimberly Canter explains that teachers may view chronic absences as excuses, overlooking how conditions limit participation.

“Teachers sometimes interpret health-related behaviors through a lens of skepticism, especially if a student misses class often,” Dr. Canter noted.

“But for kids with real conditions, this doubt exacerbates stress and isolation.” She adds that bias arises when educators prioritize classroom control over individual needs. “Chronic illness isn’t a choice, and dismissing symptoms teaches children their pain doesn’t matter,” she continued.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) urges schools to recognize asthma signs and allow quick access to relief or exits. Their guidelines stress training staff to respond without delay, as delays worsen outcomes. In this incident, the teacher’s refusal violated basic protocols.

The American Academy of Pediatrics advises immediate permission for bathroom or nurse visits during flare-ups to prevent escalation (aap.org).

Though no punishment followed beyond the teacher stopping harassment, experts say principals should investigate complaints promptly.

Education law specialist John Rumel notes that ignoring verified illnesses risks negligence claims, especially if harm occurs.

“Schools must document accommodations and train on conditions like asthma,” Rumel stated. “Failure invites liability under Section 504 for denying equal access.”

For teachers facing similar doubts, consult nurses or plans first. Parents should share medical notes early. Students who feel targeted can report to counselors.

Building empathy through training reduces bias; one study found educated staff cut accusations by half. The boy’s unintended revenge highlighted the policy flaw, but prevention beats reaction. Schools adopting CDC frameworks create safer spaces, letting chronically ill students focus on learning, not proving pain.

Here’s what Redditors had to say:

These Redditors celebrated the poetic justice of the kid’s accidental revenge, condemning the teacher’s cruelty

Seascorpious − Yeah she had it coming.

rubixsjungle − Teachers like her deserve all the vitriol they get.

PattyIce32 − I'm a teacher and I love it. But it really kills me

that there are so many c**** like the one you had who absolutely can damage Kids for Life.

Kudos to you for getting it all over her grade book, that would be hours of work for her to recoup.

These users vented about negligent school staff forcing sick students to stay in class

punkass_book_jockey8 − Damn I’m a teacher with the opposite problem, kid looks sick, acts sick, complains of being sick

so I send them to the nurse to go home (honestly even if they’re taking they are set on not learning anything).

Nurse says "no one can come get them and they cannot stay here all day doing nothing."

Nurse sends them back, I'm pissed.

Gawd Ellen you’re the nurse, at least you have a bed they can lay down in you b__ch,

why should they suffer in a cold ridged public school chair all day anxious they’re going to barf or s__t themselves in front of their friends?!

They’re rarely faking, but even if they are something is wrong

enough they need to pretend to be sick so someone will take care of them

and I don’t mind- except I have 24 other students and no bed for them to lay down on and rest.

The damn nurse sends kids back to class, even during flu season even with 102 fever.

frogirl1993 − Once I had missed two days of school with the flu

I didn't want to miss anymore (I was always sick and my school had a limit on sick days) my parents told me

if I couldn't make it they'd come get me.

I went to the nurse she wouldn't even hear me out that I was sick just sent me back.

I ended up going back next period she got all pissed for coming back

I told her I was still sick and was getting over the flu.

She yells that if I had the flu my temp would be 102 she finally checks it was like 100.

She had to make a remark it wasn't the flu but I was sick and I did get sent home.

I don't get why some people just assume kids are faking.

This group shared similar stories of being ignored when sick, resulting in messy classroom incidents

carlbandit − I was once sick in maths class, I got up to go to the toilet but only made it as far as the class bin.

The teacher sent me straight home. I felt a little bad for her as she had to clean the bin out,

and I knew she would understand if I'd come back from the toilet and said I'd been sick.

If I'd have had a teacher like that,

I'd have plastered the walls and everything she owns within striking distance.

kinkin2475 − Reminds me of year two, I had a grilled cheese for breakfast

and then told my mum I didn’t feel well. She sent me to school.

I told my teacher I didn’t feel well, she didn’t listen and told me to stay seated.

I then threw up stinky grilled cheese vomit all over mine,

and about three other kids desks and the floor.

If I was mum I wouldn’t have believed me either, the teacher though,

I’m sure I looked pretty bad just before I yakked everywhere

and I’m pretty sure I asked her two or three times to go to the bathroom.

nordrasir − Oh my god. When I was in year 5, we were at a school camp

and doing some group excercises sitting in circles in a big gymnasium.

The teacher supervising hated me mostly because of my older brother

(a giant a__hole to this day) who looked similar to me.

I’m really feeling ill so I told her; she goes “no! Your brother just tried this same trick. Go back to your group”.

So later we all assemble in lines to watch our group presentations.

I puke all over about 10 kids, then more as I rush out the gym.

I keep puking all the way to the bathrooms.

Anyway I told my parents about this when they came to pick me up the next day

and that teacher had nothing to do with me for the rest of my school year.

I feel sorry for the other kids, though.

These Redditors recounted teachers punishing them for bodily needs, leading to public humiliation

WizardOfIF − I was excused from a middle school math class

because I felt like puking. Another teacher stopped me in the hall

and started lecturing me for not having a hall pass.

I threw up all over the hallway floor. The teacher demanded a hall pass, just shut their mouth and walked away.

My math teacher had my personal belongings delivered to the office

so I wouldn’t have to return to his classroom.

[Reddit User] − Man, that sucks. But sounds like she got the rough end of that one. I have a similar story.

I was the youngest and smallest kid (skipped 1st grade),

and had several elementary school teachers who seemed to resent that.

My 4th-grade teacher was one of them.

Once, during an hour-long standardized test,

I finished a section early and asked to go to the bathroom.

She addressed the class and said, "My name needs to learn

that racing through a test doesn't get him special treatmen,t" and made me sit back down.

Even afterward, during the break, I had to stay at my desk, as a 'lesson' or something.

I finished the next section of the test early as well

and got up to ask to pee again, but was told to sit back down.

I held it as long as I could, but eventually pissed my pants.

Finally we got let out for lunch, and I went to the bathroom

and was in there for a long time, trying to dry my pants

(I was mortified that all the other bigger / older kids would see I'd pissed myself).

The teacher came in and got me eventually,

and took me to the principal's office for dawdling in the bathroom and "making a mess".

The principal took me into the office, asked me what had happened,

and then called my mom to ask her to bring me some clean clothes.

The principal apologized to both of us and privately spoke with my mom.

My mom told me later that the principal was going to have the teacher counseled

and taken off the gifted program, because she'd been treating some kids from other groups poorly as well.

She was having marriage problems or something, and taking it out on her students.

Anyway, we got a really nice new teacher who was way better

and she was the first teacher who helped me realize school could be enjoyable / learning could be fun.

This user hoped the teacher learned her lesson, noting her silence afterward as a small victory

AtheistComic − She was a terrible person. I'm glad she didn't find some way to take it out on you after.

Maybe there is a ray of hope for her after all as a person?

The Redditor’s vomit-soaked saga is a wild reminder that dismissing a kid’s pain can backfire spectacularly. The teacher’s gradebook took the hit, but her pride likely stung more.

Was the kid’s explosive moment pure karma, or did the teacher’s bias blind her to a preventable mess?

How would you handle a teacher who calls your bluff when you’re barely holding it together? Drop your thoughts below. This classroom drama deserves a round of applause or a heated debate!
