'The Boys' Showrunner Will Not End The Show After Season 5

In 2020, Kripke expressed his vision for “The Boys” on Twitter, estimating it would run for “five seasons total.” However, he acknowledged the unreliability of such predictions, referencing his previous show, “Supernatural,” which went far beyond his initial five-season estimate (ultimately lasting 15 seasons).

“My last show, Supernatural, I said five seasons for sure, and then that f***er went 15,” he said. “So I’m mostly going to keep my mouth shut, but creatively five feels like a good round number.”

With “The Boys” renewed for a fifth season even before season four premieres, Kripke has adopted a new approach. He humorously admits his past mistakes in predicting show length, calling himself “literally the most wrong person in entertainment history” on this topic. He acknowledges the value of staying flexible and avoiding definitive pronouncements about the show’s future.

Amazon Prime Video, the show’s distributor, appears to be on the same page. Vernon Sanders, an Amazon executive, hinted at the show’s potential longevity, expressing confidence in Kripke’s vision and a willingness to collaborate on future seasons.

Whether “The Boys” will reach the length of “Supernatural” remains to be seen. Kripke, wiser from experience, avoids speculation. He acknowledges his past blunders and playfully suggests he might hold the Guinness World Record for misjudging a show’s ideal run.

While the show’s ultimate fate remains unclear, fans can gear up for season four, premiering on June 13th, 2024, on Amazon Prime Video.
