In Chloe Zhao’s Eternals, a brand-new superhero squad is introduced just before being disassembled. Salma Hayek’s Ajak, Don Lee’s Gilgamesh and Richard Madden’s Ikaris are all gone by the time the movie is over. In order to inform the other Eternals of the truth that they are artificial creations made to secure population growth in order for Celestial seeds to sprout, wipe out the planet harvesting them, and form fresh galaxies, Angelina Jolie’s Thena, Barry Keoghan’s Druig and Lauren Ridloff’s Makkari have departed on their spacecraft Domo. In fact, that process of such a thing called Emergence means exchanging billions of beings on a planet for billions more. The Eternals would then be moved to another planet to repeat the process after having their memories erased. As Gemma Chan’s Sersi, Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo and Brian Tyree Henry prepare to continue their lives back on Earth, Lia McHugh’s Sprite, who is now transformed into a human, is prepared to attend school.
Meanwhile, the Prime Celestial arrives on Earth and brings Sersi, Kingo and Phastos off-world, when Sersi almost unravels a significant mystery from her boyfriend, Kit Harrington’s Dane Whitman. Although the 3 Eternals would be moved away to have their minds scanned in order to determine whether mankind actually deserve salvation, Arishem vows to permit mankind to remain, at least for now. The 3 of them will then be put on trial with the destiny of humanity at stake after being sucked into a black hole that Arishem constructed.
Since the Eternals are practically off-world until their future journey, this seems a good spot to leave them. The Eternals remain at their own small edge, considering the MCU now is a large game board with many characters already interacting with one another. Indeed, it’s highly probable that they will run into the Guardians of the Galaxy or Captain Marvel in the upcoming period, but the message appears to tell that they will remain isolated. Although Thena, Druig, and Makkari are moving closer to the Marvel Cinematics Universe, it is unclear what’s going to occur to Sersi, Kingo and Phastos. In both cases, none of these can save the day when the next catastrophe threatens to terminate this would, something they would currently be able to accomplish because they disobeyed Arishem.
The end of Eternals essentially solidifies the character’s background while simultaneously delaying their entrance into the greater MCU. Although all members of the Eternals knew about the broader MCU, the movie ends by leaving them out of the larger crowd. Marvel can avoid more serious inquiries regarding their involvement in upcoming events in this way. Black Widow isn’t essentially included in Phase Four until now as it happens long ago, apart from its Hawkeye-related credits scene, while Shang-Chi just enters the MCU at the very finale when Benedict Wong’s Wong introduces Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi and Awkwafina’s Katy to Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner. We might have to wait till the Eternals come into contact with another well-known MCU hero.
