Woman Wakes Up Pregnant After Blackout Night, Then Realizes Her Boyfriend Ignored Her One Rule

A woman discovered she was pregnant after a night where her memories completely disappeared. What followed was not just a pregnancy decision, it was a painful question about trust, boundaries, and whether a partner respected the limits she had already clearly communicated.

A 35-year-old woman shared that she became extremely intoxicated during a concert and later learned she may have had intimacy with her boyfriend after returning home.

The problem was that she had no memory of it, had previously told him she did not want pregnancy risks, and had always been clear about her boundaries. Her story sparked a difficult discussion about consent, responsibility, and what happens when trust between partners breaks. Want the full story? Dive into the original post below.

not the actual photo

'My boyfriend (34M) knew I (35F) didn't want unprotected s__. Now I'm pregnant and don't remember having s__?'

I'm looking for outside perspectives because I'm struggling with how to view what happened.

A few weeks ago, my boyfriend (34M), my roommate, and I (35F) went to a concert. I got extremely drunk.

Not "buzzed" drunk.....completely obliterated. I was falling over, couldn't walk properly, and could barely function.

My boyfriend had also been drinking, but not to the same extent. He was sober enough to drive us over an hour home after the concert.

According to my roommate, I went straight to bed when we got home. I have very little memory of anything after leaving the concert.

About 2–3 weeks later, I started having pregnancy symptoms and got a positive pregnancy test.

Based on the timing of the tests, the pregnancy appears to be very early.

The problem is that, to my knowledge, I had not had any s__ual contact in months. I have absolutely no memory of having s__.

When I told my boyfriend I was pregnant, he casually said he doesn't really remember having s__ either,

but thinks it might have happened when we got home from the concert.

His explanation technically fits the timeline, and because I was so i__oxicated, I wouldn't remember it.

Some additional context:

* I do not want this pregnancy.

* I stopped sleeping in the same bed as him after finding out.

* Before this happened, he knew I did not want to have s__ unless we could prevent pregnancy.

* I had explicitly told him I didn't want s__ because he has difficulty maintaining an erection long enough to use condoms, and I did not want to risk getting...

* He was aware of that position.

* He frequently joked about getting me pregnant, which has always bothered me because he doesn't seem to take the possibility seriously.

Part of me feels responsible because I chose to get that drunk.

Another part of me keeps coming back to the fact that I was apparently so i__oxicated that I have no memory of what happened,

and I had previously made it clear that I did not want unprotected s__.

I'm not looking for legal advice. I'm trying to understand how other people would view this situation.

If your partner had s__ with you while you were so i__oxicated that you have no memory of it,

after you had previously said you did not want unprotected s__, would you consider that consensual?

Edit: I left this out as to not muddle up the question with judgement but he is gone as of last night and I am absolutely getting an a__rtion.

I have zero hesitation on both of those things. I'm just still trying to, I guess, categorize what happened in my own head.

Some moments in relationships become painful not because of what is immediately known, but because of what is suddenly questioned.

Trust, safety, and consent are built on the belief that the person closest to us will respect our boundaries, especially when we are vulnerable. When that trust is shaken, it can leave someone struggling not only with what happened, but with how to understand it.

In this situation, the OP was not only dealing with an unexpected pregnancy. She was trying to process a frightening gap in her own memory and determine whether her boundaries had been ignored.

The emotional conflict came from blaming herself for becoming extremely intoxicated while also recognizing that her boyfriend knew she did not want unprotected s**.

She had communicated her concerns clearly, including her desire to avoid pregnancy. The fact that she cannot remember the encounter is what makes the situation especially disturbing because she cannot rely on her own memory to understand whether she agreed.

A different perspective is that responsibility for drinking and responsibility for another person’s actions are not the same thing. OP may feel guilty because she chose to become intoxicated, but vulnerability does not remove another person’s responsibility to respect boundaries.

A caring partner who knows someone is severely impaired should prioritize their safety, not take advantage of a situation where clear communication and meaningful agreement are impossible. The repeated jokes about pregnancy also add another layer because they suggest that OP’s fears may not have been taken as seriously as they should have been.

Psychologist Dr. Kelly McGuire, who specializes in trauma and relationships, explains that consent requires more than the absence of resistance. It requires the ability to freely choose and communicate, and intoxication can interfere with a person’s ability to make an informed decision.

She emphasizes that respecting boundaries means paying attention to a person’s capacity and previously expressed wishes, not only whether they verbally object in a specific moment.

This perspective connects strongly to OP’s experience because the issue is not simply whether her boyfriend remembers the event differently. The important question is whether OP was in a condition where she could participate in a decision that affected her body and future.

Her previous conversations about avoiding pregnancy also matter because they established what she wanted before the night in question. A partner cannot treat those boundaries as irrelevant simply because circumstances changed.

At the same time, this story shows why people often struggle to label experiences that do not fit their expectations. Many assume harm only happens when there is obvious force or aggression, but violations of trust can also occur through ignoring vulnerability and disregarding previously stated limits.

OP’s choice to step back from the relationship and make decisions about her pregnancy based on what is right for her shows that she is trying to regain control over a situation where she feels that control was taken away. Understanding what happened may take time, but her feelings of confusion and discomfort are valid.

Boundaries are not only about what someone says in a single moment; they are also about whether the people around them respect the limits they already know exist.

Here’s the input from the Reddit crowd:

These commenters supported ending the relationship and considering available pregnancy options

classicicedtea − would you consider that consensual? No. I’d get an a__rtion and leave. I’m sorry.

NorthernLitUp − You're probably early enough along for the pill. That may be cheaper than surgical a__rtion.

Reach out to Planned Parenthood if you have one locally.

BedGirl5444 − Get an a__rtion and leave him

killercora666 − You’re not responsible at all, being drunk isn’t an excuse for another person to violate your boundaries.

I wouldn’t consider this consensual even a little bit. If it’s something you’re comfortable with,

you should definitely get an a__rtion and not let yourself be tied to a man who has revealed himself to be abusive.

I really hope you’re okay and I encourage you to look into DV resources in your area.

These Redditors reassured OP that the situation was not her fault and she was taken advantage of

just-a-misfit − You are not at fault. You trusted someone and they took advantage of you. Do not blame yourself.

HerWildestDreams − Absolutely not consensual, I’m glad to see you’ve removed him from your life.

He was sober enough to drive you home, I’m almost concerned he might’ve even slipped something into your drink…

but that’s just me being probably being a bit paranoid in that aspect.

Regardless, you don’t remember, he seems very nonchalant about it - sounds like he knew what he’d done. This was most definitely SA…

laulau1501 − Could it be that he put something in your drink? If you don’t remember the evening he could have pre planned this.

These commenters viewed the incident as non-consensual and emphasized the importance of consent

firespot06 − Trauma therapist here. Consent is when there is an enthusiastic yes. There was not here.

You need to define your experience for yourself, but I do frequently talk about the difference between impact and legality.

While the police would not consider this to be the case, anything without an enthusiastic yes is nonconsent period.

You did not have the ability to provide informed consent and he knew that s__ was not something you had been wanting for a while.

Do with that what you will to explain your experience, but if you are not already in therapy and are able to receive it, I highly recommend it!

Fast-Chipmunk-1558 − So you were r*ped. And book therapy

atticusfinch1973 − Of course it wouldn't be consensual. Your boyfriend decided to rape you and got you pregnant.

The fact he claims "not to remember" is ridiculous, especially if you hadn't had s__ up until that point.

Of course he would remember, guys don't just forget having s__ with women.

How should someone rebuild trust after a situation where their memories and boundaries were both involved? What support should partners provide when someone becomes vulnerable? Share your thoughts below.
