Amazon Prime Video has ordered a brand new series based on Andy Lane’s “Young Sherlock Holmes” novels, with a dream team assembled to bring the project to life.
Leading the charge is Hero Fiennes Tiffin, stepping into the iconic role of a young Sherlock Holmes. This is a big reunion for Tiffin and director Guy Ritchie, who recently collaborated on the film “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.” Ritchie isn’t new to the world of Sherlock Holmes, having previously directed two films starring Robert Downey Jr. as the famed detective.
“In ‘Young Sherlock’ we’re going to see an exhilarating new version of the detective everyone thinks they know in a way they’ve never imagined before,” said Ritchie. He promises to explore the formative years of Sherlock Holmes, revealing what shaped him into the brilliant detective we all know and love.
Writer Matthew Parkhill (“Deep State,” “Rogue”) will serve as showrunner and executive producer for the eight-episode series. He’ll be joined by an impressive team of executive producers, including Guy Ritchie, Andy Lane, Simon Kelton, and several others.
The series is described as an “action-packed origin story” that will reimagine the iconic character. At 19, a young and unrefined Sherlock Holmes finds himself embroiled in a murder mystery at Oxford University, a case that will set him on a life-altering path.
“This exciting, new chapter about one of the world’s best-known literary characters, will delight our global customers with its captivating storytelling,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios.
Tiffin, known for his roles in the “After” franchise and for portraying a young Tom Riddle in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” is poised for a breakout role as the young Sherlock Holmes.
With production already underway, fans can eagerly anticipate this fresh take on the legendary detective. The series is sure to be a must-watch for Sherlock Holmes enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
