Summary:

- Marvel Studios quickly rides on the wave by releasing a new hilarious poster with Reynolds’ Deadpool posing as Jesus himself.
- Deadpool’s trademark edgy humor and breaking-the-fourth-wall jokes will return in the third movie (unlike Josh Brolin’s Cable).
The official trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine has given us a lot of comedy, banter, f-words, easter eggs, and a brand-new nickname for the Merc with a Mouth. Somewhere during the movie, Wade Wilson calls himself “Marvel Jesus,” referencing how the threequel can save the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole as the sole theater release in 2024.
Well, Marvel fully capitalizes on the meme-able aspect of Deadpool’s new nickname right away. In the latest poster on X, Deadpool and the rest of the cast are seen in the most hilarious fashion possible: portrayed on a bunch of prayer candles, wearing Christian robes to represent Jesus. This creative choice clearly echoes the playful new nickname for Deadpool, “Marvel Jesus,” which was revealed in the film’s initial teaser. Let’s take a look:

Deadpool & Wolverine marks the third film starring Ryan Reynolds as the irreverent Merc with a Mouth, though director Shawn Levy is quick to clarify that this isn’t just Deadpool 3. Instead, it re-introduces Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in a leading role and features the return of familiar faces like Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), Blind Al (Leslie Uggams), and Colossus (Stefan Kapičić).
These 5 characters are all depicted in the ecclesiastical style of the new poster, which was first unveiled to fans at the CCXP Mexico festival—Deadpool’s comedy at its finest.
This new chapter sees Deadpool making his official entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Marvel head Kevin Feige teasing “universe-sized stakes.
“Deadpool is very intrigued by [the Sacred Timeline]. He learns soon thereafter that it’s not quite as simple an offer as he thought it was and the stakes are universe-sized.” Feige shared.
Ryan Reynolds first donned the infamous mutant persona in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but didn’t get his own solo Deadpool movie until 2019. With a sequel in 2019 and now returning for Deadpool & Wolverine, Reynolds promises this will be “the most Deadpool movie in the history of Deadpool,” maintaining the signature mix of F-bombs, edgy humor, meta references, and fourth-wall-breaking antics fans adore.
Now, even as Deadpool & Wolverine is now under Disney, the official trailer shows that the franchise’s comedy that everyone loves will definitely make a return.
The only difference is that this time, Wade Wilson won’t lead the story alone. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is the second protagonist of the upcoming threequel, and is expected to deliver as much comedic banter as possible with the Merc with a Mouth.
“As much as I take the ever-loving f*cking piss out of him each and every day, underneath that is a genuine love story. As adversarial as we are in the movie, the undercurrent is one of real love. Getting to spend time with my two closest friends, and waking up in the morning with a passionate devotion to say something so horrendous that they fall over laughing is a gift,” said Reynolds, highlighting his friendship with Jackman.
