Elle Fanning, an Emmy nominee for her role in Hulu’s The Great, is in talks to star in Badlands, a standalone film from director Dan Trachtenberg that expands the Predator universe.
Trachtenberg, known for his success with the Predator prequel Prey, will direct the film from a script he co-wrote with Patrick Aison.
Following the critical acclaim of Prey, which broke records on Hulu and earned five Primetime Emmy nominations, Badlands is poised to continue the franchise’s success.
Fanning’s Stellar Career and Badlands Potential
Fanning recently concluded a three-season run as executive producer and star of Hulu’s The Great, where she portrayed Russian monarch Catherine the Great, earning her first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
Her diverse 20-year career includes roles such as Disney’s Princess Aurora in the Maleficent movies, the family comedy We Bought a Zoo, and auteur-driven films like Nicolas Winding Refn’s The Neon Demon and Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled.
One of her notable early roles was in J.J. Abrams’ 2011 sci-fi movie Super 8, where she played Alice, a preteen who witnesses a train crash and investigates the ensuing unexplained events.
Fanning will next be seen in James Mangold’s A Complete Unknown, starring opposite Timothée Chalamet as Sylvie Russo.
Badlands, announced in February and set to begin production later this year, comes on the heels of Trachtenberg’s Prey and is expected to add another exciting chapter to the Predator saga.
Plot details for Badlands remain under wraps, but the film’s connection to a critically acclaimed prequel bodes well for its potential success.
Fanning is represented by UTA, TFC Management, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller. The involvement of Fanning was first reported by Deadline, though 20th Century Studios declined to comment.
