On Sunday, Hannah Waddingham joined Ted Lasso’s Emmy triumphal run by winning Outstanding Supporting Actress – her first Emmy for the Apple TV+ comedy.
Waddingham praised her co-star Jason Sudeikis after earning the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series award from Seth Rogen (who accidentally mispronounced her name).
“Jason, you changed my life with this and more importantly my baby girl’s, i’m honestly so privileged to work with you. I really am,” she said.
Ted Lasso’s Plot
Waddingham plays AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton with Sudeikis’ eponymous figure in Ted Lasso. She intends to exploit Ted’s upbeat demeanor to aid her ex-husband to destroy his beloved soccer team. Brendan Hunt, Nick Mohammed, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Jeremy Swift, and others feature alongside her.

Waddingham won her Outstanding Supporting Actress award by beating out fellow contenders Rosie Perez from The Flight Attendant, Hannah Einbinder from Hacks, Aidy Bryant, Cecily Strong, and Kate McKinnon from Saturday Night Live, and Ted Lasso co-star Temple.
Temple’s Keeley Jones was also honored by the newly-minted Emmy winner. She declared on stage that she would split the prize with her co-star “if I could break one of the statuette’s arms.”

Finally, she pushed the industry to offer more West End musical theater performers, including her alma mater, more screen time.
Ted Lasso has a record-breaking 20 nominations for its first season going into the Sunday bash. The show also took up the award for Best Comedy Series. The 73rd Annual Emmy Awards, hosted by Cedric the Entertainer, was broadcast on CBS on Sunday. Below is Waddingham’s acceptance speech.
