As reported by Deadline, Ariana Greenblatt will share the screen with the franchise’s veterans such as Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Lizzy Caplan, and Mark Ruffalo. Isla Fisher will make her return in the threequel, after departing from Now You See Me 2. Her known in the third movie is still under wrap.
Ruben Fleischer will be at the helm as director for the third film, with the screenplay penned by Eric Warren Singer, Seth Grahame-Smith, and Mike Lesslie. Producers Bobby Cohen and Alex Kurtzman are also on board as producers.
Greenblatt has made a mark in the Star Wars universe by portraying a younger version of Rosario Dawson‘s character in Star Wars: Ahsoka. Her role as young Gamora in Avengers: Infinity War and her recent part as Sasha in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie have further cemented her status in major film franchises.
Additionally, Greenblatt also ventures into the voice-acting realm, lending her voice to Tabitha Templeton in The Boss Baby: Family Business and continuing the role in its Netflix series spinoff, The Boxx Baby: Back in the Crib.
The Now You See Me series, which began in 2013 under the direction of Louis Leterrier and with a screenplay by Ed Solomon, Boaz Yakin, and Edward Ricourt, achieved notable success. The original movie raked in over $351 million globally against a $75 million budget, and even clinched the Favorite Thriller Movie at the People’s Choice Awards. It also gathered a cult fanbase for the franchise.
The franchise itself revolves around a band of magicians, illusionists, and con artists, with Jesse Eisenberg’s character, Atlas, leading the pack. This group performs heists against corporations and government entities using their magician abilities, aiming to redistribute wealth among themselves and the people. They are guided by a secret society of magicians known as The Eye, led by Mark Ruffalo, and later, Morgan Freeman.
Following the triumph of the first film, the sequel directed by Jon M. Chu and penned by Solomon and Peter Chiarelli was released in 2016. While it brought back most of the original cast, Isla Fisher was replaced by Lizzy Caplan, and Daniel Radcliffe was introduced as the new villain. Now You See Me 2 managed to gross $334 million, albeit didn’t reach the same quality as the first film.
It’s also reported that the upcoming Now You See Me 3 is not just another sequel, but rather a reimagined approach to the storyline under Fleischer’s direction.
Although the release date for Now You See Me 3 is still under wraps, the much-anticipated threequel is expected to hit theaters worldwide mid-to-late 2024. Fans can look forward to new twists, thrilling heists, and the spectacular display of illusion in the latest chapter of this magical saga.
