Letting a baby sleep alone can be unsettling for parents. However, in the long run, you will find this to be the right decision. Researchers found that “early independent sleepers,” or babies who slept in their own room before 4 months, slept longer, and for longer stretches, than babies who slept in their parents’ room. In addition, letting the babies sleep in their own room is also the first step to helping them become independent. Because of such great benefits, more and more parents help their babies learn the fine art of falling asleep on their own. In contrast, actress Alicia Silverstone doesn’t think so and she still shares the bed with her 11-year-old son.
Alicia Silverstone is famous for her roles as Adrian Forrester in the thriller “The Crush” (1993), Cher Horowitz in the teen comedy film “Clueless” (1995), and Batgirl in the superhero film “Batman & Robin” (1997). Besides her famous roles, Silverstone is also known for her unique parenting methods. She recently appeared on The Ellen Fisher Podcast to talk about her life as a vegan and what goes into raising healthy kids. When it comes to sleeping, Silverstone revealed that she’s always slept with her son, Bear.

“I’m a loving mama. I believe in love, I believe in nature, and our society is scared of nature and love,” she said. The California native joked that she would likely “get in trouble” but she said and laugh off possible critics “I don’t really care.” Silverstone explained that she follows a “natural” style of parenting and compared keeping Bear near her to animals keeping their young close to them. “If you were in any kind of wild setting where there are animals, if you put your baby over there, your baby is going to get eaten. So, it’s not ideal for the baby to be over there.”

In addition to sharing a bed, Silverstone has frequently been highlighted in the news for her parenting style through the years. She first made headlines in 2012, when Bear was 10 months old, after she shared a video of herself feeding her child food that she had already chewed. “He literally crawls across the room to attack my mouth if I’m eating” she wrote alongside the video. Although many of her parenting approaches are probably a little unconventional, it’s obvious that she loves Bear’s motherhood more than anything.

Silverstone is a well-known animal rights supporter and a vegan. She is nurturing a plant-based diet for her son as well. The two love cooking together, and Silverstone thinks that involving Bear in the process gives him a better understanding of where the food comes from and how.
