Apartment Tenant Blasts Baby Shark To Quiet Early Morning Maintenance

When maintenance workers disrupted OP’s Saturday at 6 AM with hammering in the neighboring apartment, OP retaliated by looping “Baby Shark” in the adjoining bathroom.

The noise stopped, the workers apologized, and they switched to quieter tasks. OP calls it a small victory, but was she wrong to use music as revenge?

This story is a playful take on handling disruptions. Did OP go too far? Let’s dive into the details and see what the online community thinks.

Apartment Tenant Blasts Baby Shark To Quiet Early Morning Maintenance

'The maintenance man woke us up at 6 am with hammering in the empty apartment next door, so I got even 🎶🎵🎶?'

This is 2nd day in a row that they've done this, but it's Saturday today, my guy.

I simply got up, asked my husband to be patient with me (as he's staring at me, confused, cuz he saw the look on my face and knew someone was...

I went to the bathroom that's adjoining the sawing and hammering. I put Baby Shark on a loop and taped my phone to the wall.

The saw stopped almost immediately. We could hear them talking from one room to another, but the hammering was still happening.

By 8 am, there was silence. 8:47 am, they knocked on the door and apologized for waking us up, and said they hope we have a good weekend.

Nothing about the music. But they are switching to pulling carpet for the day. Which is quiet.

I thanked them and wished them luck. Then I went inside and stopped the music.. VICTORY! It's small, but it's mine!

Edit: Getting some hate in the comments and my DMs, so I'm done responding. It wasn't that serious.

We've been joking with them since they turned around the apartment on the opposite side last week.

And no, the phone was not equivalent to a boom box. It didn't rattle the walls.

I honestly doubt they heard more than the melody, as we can't hear our neighbors' conversations.

Just the rumble of their voices when they talk, and if they yell. No one is getting evicted, and I'm not going to the office to get them fired.

It was annoying, then silly, and then it was over. Have a lovely weekend, everyone. And CBAT away!

Edit: We've decided to bring them snacks and joke about the song, and make sure they're actually okay and not upset.

We really don't want to upset maintenance. They're good people, just working, and I bet they don't want to be here either.

This story illustrates a creative, non-violent response to disruptive maintenance noise. Early morning construction, especially on weekends, is often inappropriate and may violate apartment regulations.

Property management expert Sarah Wallace notes, “Noisy maintenance should be scheduled at reasonable hours, like after 8 AM, to respect residents” (Property Management Insider).

OP’s use of “Baby Shark” was effective and playful but risked escalating tension unnecessarily, as maintenance workers may follow management’s orders. Her plan to offer snacks and make peace is a wise step to maintain goodwill.

OP should check apartment policies and report ongoing early noise for a formal resolution. This case highlights creative conflict resolution and the need for respectful scheduling in shared living spaces.

Here’s the feedback from the Reddit community:

Reddit largely supports OP’s ingenuity, praising the humor, though some see it as excessive. Some share similar experiences or suggest formal solutions. Here’s a roundup of reactions.

Many applaud OP’s creativity.

lapsteelguitar − The subtlety of the message. The effectiveness of the message. First rate.

Because they got the message loud & clear, without excess effort on your part, no cussing on anybody's part. And you shamed them, to boot.

taposk − Oh, this is one of the best revenge stories I've seen in the last weeks here! Well done!

Some share experiences or solutions.

marg0214 − Are these contractors? I had this happen once in our apartment at 6:30 am. Went to the office and reported it, and they told me workers weren’t allowed...

They put a stop to it immediately. There’s no reason for workers to start that kind of thing that early other than their own convenience. Check with the office.

Koolest_Kat − I’ve been that maintenance guy. I was assured all the tenants were made aware of our noise requirements on a 7 am start.

They were not. I was confronted by an angry, no, very angry, tired, frustrated new mother with a colicky newborn.

Her determinedly beating on our unit, holding said newborn (who was in “A Mood”) with dark circles under her eyes.

“Please, pleeeeease just stop!” After conferring with my boss, I headed to the unit to apologize.

She just looked at me and said, “Here, you hold her!” basically shoving the poor crying baby into my arms.

I’ve been a colicky dad, shushed and walked up and down the hall about five minutes (hard hat, bibs, tool pouch, and all) to a cooing, sleeping baby.

I looked her in the eye and asked if they had a rocking chair? ?? They did, and I held the sleeping joy for about an hour. The boss came...

i_eat_dat_ass − Ba-by SHARK! Doodoodoo.

A few criticize or add humor.

LettuceWithBeetroot − I didn't know what 'Baby Shark' was until I just looked on YouTube. What a heinous form of torture, OP!! I doff my cap to you...

VaderBinks − Maybe he was just hammering on beat to the Do Do Do do do do, and you couldn’t hear it anymore.

SouthernerDude − I personally would have gone with 'Bob the Builder'...

Piddy3825 − Damn, now I got that song stuck in my head!

AshleyTheGuy − I have a Spotify playlist for things just like this called “because f**k neighbors” look it up.

SomebodyThrow − This reminds me of the time the balcony below me kept smoking, and our landlord told us we weren't allowed to confront other people about problems.

That they'd have to catch them smoking themselves to know for sure.

So any time I smelled weed/cigarettes, I'd put my Bluetooth speaker on my balcony with this song on loop and slowly increase the volume. Worked every time.

mightylordredbeard − As a former maintenance man, we didn’t wanna be there either that early.

Most of the time it’s the property managers throwing some last minute s**t on us cause they only care about profit and are moving in some new tenets way too...

I remember telling a couple one time who just went off on us for doing work at 9 am on a Saturday how sorry I was and how I was...

Whereas if I don’t get this job done by noon, then I’m gonna be fired and my entire family will be inconvenienced for possibly several months of our lives while...

longndfat − All who are passing hate comments are AH's. You did what you could for some peace.

Suspicious_Story_464 − Chaos vs violence. I like your style.

frauleinsteve − 6 am is b**lshit.

OP wasn’t wrong for using “Baby Shark” to counter 6 AM maintenance noise, cleverly regaining peace. Reddit mostly cheers the humor but suggests formal solutions for ongoing issues.

OP’s plan to make amends with snacks is a smart move. How do you handle noisy neighbors? Share your stories!
