In June, Kyle Massey, starring in shows including That’s So Raven and Cory in the House, was charged with one count of illicit communication with a juvenile. He is accused of sending a 13-year-old girl obscene material.
Kyle Massey’s court hearing in King County was initially set for late June. It was rescheduled for July 12th morning, after the actor first failed to show there.
The case concerns pornographic images, videos, and text that the actor reportedly sent to a teenage girl who is a long-term acquaintance of his, according to TMZ, which broke the story first. In 2019, when the girl was 13, she and her family filed a lawsuit against Kyle Massey, stating that he lured a teenager, tried to do lewd behavior with a minor, and disturbed or harassed a kid. At the time, he rejected the allegations.
The latest accusation appears to be linked to that litigation, although court records that were not quickly available to the public were reported by TMZ and later other media sources.
According to TMZ, the girl’s mother informed authorities that Kyle Massey had known her since she was four years old. According to the site, the actor sent files that included an obscene video clip and another that depicted a man who looked to be Massey revealing his private parts.
Lee A. Hutton, the actor’s lawyer, made a response late Wednesday:
“It is unfortunate that Kyle Massey had to learn through the media yesterday that the 2019 allegations have resurfaced in the State of Washington a year after their dismissal,” Massey claims that the allegations then and now are extortive. The statements made to the police regarding the accuser’s own counsel’s advice seem peculiar, tearing away the veracity from the stale allegations. The accusers in no hidden agenda attempt to use the Washington courts as a platform for revenge after losing the civil matter. Indeed, California counsel withdrew from representation from the accuser leaving us to conclude that he was not willing to make misrepresentations to the court. The Washington matter is already showing problematic signs. Massey was never properly served or notified as represented to the court and the pleadings are procedurally and substantively deficient on its face. Massey intends to aggressively defend these accusations again and will seek civil damages from those that refuse to hear the facts. We plan to seek an early dismissal — finally putting these extortive attempts to rest.”
In all 100 episodes of That’s So Raven, which ran on Disney Channel from 2003 to 2007, Kyle Massey, now 29, played star Ryven-Simoné’s young brother Cory. In the 2007-08 season of the cable network’s spinoff series Cory in the House, he played the title character. He was most recently regularly featured on Millennials, an AMC streamer AllBlk comedy. Other credits include The Electric Companion, as well as voice performances on American Dragon: Jake Long, Fish Hooks, and other animated series.
