The Amazing Spider-Man series was a promising one with a lot of set of stories. Marc Webb, the film’s director, had sketched out his intentions for the following film. Marvel fans were arguably more dissatisfied with the sequel’s finale, and yet the third film never saw the light of day.
Fans were undoubtedly left in the dust as the discontinuation of the film series was announced. There were no hints or indications of the third film’s appearance. With speculations swirling regarding Andrew Garfield‘s presence in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it’s time to learn the truth about this could-have-been film.
#1 Initial Release Was Scheduled For 2016
The sequel was aired in May 2014, and it was believed to be the lowest-grossing Spider-Man film. Despite this, it was able to obtain an agreement for a third film, which was set to be released in June 2016.
Surprisingly, by the time it was scheduled to be published, it had been rebooted with the debut of Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War. It’s tough to envision how both films might have turned out if Garfield’s third feature had been approved.
#2 It Was Building A Universe
Reports regarding Sony seeking to compete with the MCU by creating its own world first surfaced in 2013. The Amazing Spider-Man 3 would have featured several solo movies and spinoffs to gradually establish its own world. Electro, Mysterio, Kraven, Vulture, and Doctor Octopus would appear in each film as Spider- Man’s adversaries.
Some rumors have also revealed the creation of a Black Cat spinoff starring Felicity Jones as Felicia Hardy, as well as a Sinister Six film starring all of Spider-legendary Man’s enemies.
#3 Tackles The Aftermath Of Gwen’s Death
Gwen Stacy‘s death was without a doubt the most memorable occurrence in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. This was the first time an on-screen companion of Spider-Man was killed off. Peter Parker was so devastated by her death that he just gave up his suit.
In a discussion, Marc Webb stated that this crucial event in Peter Parker’s existence will decide how the third movie will go. It will show Peter dealing with his loss and attempt to heal from it.
#4 Garfield Was Supposed To Be In The MCU
The original goal was for Garfield’s Spider-Man to appear in the MCU. Numerous leaks from the massive Sony breach in 2014 revealed secret facts about the film as well as preparations for a crossover.
The Wall Street Journal also reported that there have been discussions about getting Andrew Garfield into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. To pitch the plan, Marvel Studios contacted Amy Pascal’s crew at Sony. While this idea did not come to fruition, we may be thankful that they tried!
#5 There Was A Planned 4th Film
While everyone was talking about the third movie, most fans were unaware that a fourth installment was in the works. The movie was supposed to be released in May of 2018. However, because The Amazing Spider-Man 4 project was still in the works, no specifics were available. It was thought to mark the beginning of the Spider-Man world, as well as the debut of the Sinister Six.
