Captain America: Brave New World” has unleashed a fresh batch of photos, offering fans a thrilling glimpse into the next chapter of the MCU. Following Steve Rogers’ poignant handover of the iconic vibranium shield to Sam Wilson in “Avengers: Endgame,” Anthony Mackie steps up as the new Captain America, and has his first center role in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
The latest visuals from the film showcase Mackie in his revamped Captain America attire, ready to dazzle audiences as the MCU’s new Star-Spangled man.
Following the early footage premiere in CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Entertainment Weekly has recently unveiled new images featuring Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson alongside Harrison Ford’s Thunderbolt Ross, who steps into the presidency in this latest installment.
The first image captures Sam investigating a dimly lit corridor, shield in hand but wearing his casual clothing.
Meanwhile, the second photo places Sam in a one-on-one meeting with President Thaddeus Ross, wearing his iconic shield and a brand-new Captain America suit, which has some uncanny similarities to Steve Rogers’ Outfit in Civil War.
The second image, especially, might portray the events that were revealed early at CinemaCon earlier this week. The CinemaCon footage revealed an intriguing scene where President Ross meets Sam in private, just like the photo suggests. Ross acknowledges Sam’s heroism while expressing his reservations about superheroes.
He then tasks Sam with reforming the Avengers, this time under government oversight, which may cause Sam some internal struggle since it goes against Rogers’ ideal. Tension rises when a strange sound awakens a group of sleeper super soldiers in the White House, causing them to attack Thaddeus Ross.
Directed by Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox), “Captain America: Brave New World” sees Sam Wilson embracing his role as the leader of the Avengers, after taking the mantle from his friend Steve Rogers. His journey from Falcon to Captain America, begun in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” now finds him navigating his identity as America’s new symbol of hope and justice.
Harrison Ford makes his first foray into the Marvel Universe, taking over the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross from the late William Hurt. Ross, previously the Secretary of State, now finds himself in the Oval Office, tasking Sam Wilson’s Captain America with the mission to reassemble the Avengers.
Liv Tyler returns as Ross’ daughter, Betty, and Tim Blake Nelson reprises his role as Samuel Sterns from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk.
This isn’t the first time Marvel has revealed a new Captain America costume for Sam Wilson in the upcoming movie either, suggesting Brave New World might have multiple different outfits for the former Falcon.
Adding a lighter note to the promotions, Anthony Mackie playfully jibes at Tom Holland, referencing a past fan convention where Holland quipped about Mackie not having his own Falcon movie. Now leading his own title as Captain America, Mackie plans to have the last laugh during the premiere, ensuring Holland is by his side to witness Mackie’s monumental moment.
I’m going to make sure that Marvel makes him come to the premiere, and then I’m going to sit him next to me, and I’m going to watch him watch the movie,” Mackie humorously told Entertainment Weekly.
Captain America: Brave New World” is set to hit theaters on February 14, 2025, as Sam Wilson takes center stage in the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe.
