David Corenswet has undergone an impressive physical transformation for his upcoming role as Superman in James Gunn‘s rebooted DC Universe. With filming already underway since February, the team managed to keep his Superman look under wraps until recently, strategically timing the reveal to get ahead of any potential leaks during outdoor shoots.
Corenswet isn’t the only one in the cast who’s been hitting the gym hard. Mascitti has also shared updates on the physical progress of other cast members like Edi Gathegi, who plays Mr. Terrific, and María Gabriela de Faría, who stars as The Engineer.
Yet, it’s Corenswet’s transformation that’s bound to draw comparisons with past actors who’ve donned the Superman cape, particularly for his notable size and build. Before shooting for Superman, the new DCU star has a much leaner stature, but now, he has undergone a complete muscle overhaul, bulking up his whole body considerably.
Looking at the current Corenswet, fans of the franchise will recall Henry Cavill‘s portrayal of Superman, who’s also praised for his impressive physique and facial features that resemble the Man of Steel the most.
With his current workout program, Corenswet seems to be following in Cavill’s footsteps but has the added advantage of height. Standing at 6’4”, the Pearl actor is a few inches taller than Cavill’s 6’1”. As one of the two tallest and bulkiest performers to have ever portrayed the live-action Man of Tomorrow, and with his striking resemblances to Cavill’s Superman physique, the potential for David Corenswet in the DC Universe is endless.
Christopher Reeve, the first Superman to have appeared in theaters, was also 6’4”, just like Corenswet, though the former is much leaner than his two successors. It might be a bit soon to say, but perhaps in 2025, DC fans will get a better chance to look at Corenswet’s muscles and his new Supes outfit in action.
