This would mark the fourth film in the Descendants series and would introduce new storybook characters in the series, along with the few familiar faces that would return. China Anne McClain would be back to reprise the role of Uma, the Principal of Auradon Prep.
In her new position, Uma is going to shake things up a little: she’ll open up Auradon Prep to all students from “all the kingdoms,” including Wonderland.
The film was first previewed in 2021, during the premiere of the animated special “Descendants: The Royal Wedding”, and was a go project in the following year.

In May, Red and Chloe embark on a quest for time travel. When the Queen of Hearts casts an ultimatum to kill Cinderella, her kids team up to travel back in time with the help of a magic clock to change that.
However, they end up going a wee tad bit further back to when their parents were in school. Well, there, it is revealed that they must stop Ulyana (Ursula‘s sister and Uma’s aunt) from turning the Queen of Hearts bad without screwing up the fabric of time.
Who Will Star In ‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’?
While a number of original cast members won’t return for the movie, there are plenty of new faces to replace them. Taking on the titular Red is Kylie Cantrall, who plays the daughter of Queen of Hearts. Other than that, Malia Baker takes on the role of Chloe Charming, the daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming.
Then there is High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ Dara Reneé as Ulyana, Ursula’s sister and Uma’s aunt, and Joshua Colley as Hook, the parent to Thomas Doherty’s original franchise character, Harry.
Other big stars will also play the iconic storybook characters. Already in the cast is Rita Ora as the Queen of Hearts. Brandy and Paolo Montalban will perform as Cinderella and Prince Charming, reprising their roles that they performed in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical television film, which came out in 1997.
Rounding out the cast as younger versions of the characters include Ruby Rose Turner as Young Queen of Hearts, Morgan Dudley as Young Cinderella, Tristan Padil as Young Prince Charming and Grace Narducci as Young Fairy Godmother.

As an official synopsis for the film reads, “finds polar opposites Red and Chloe crossing paths at a momentous celebration in Auradon when unexpected chaos breaks out.”
As they desperately try to “prevent an impending coup, they must join forces to travel back in time, via a magical pocket watch created by the Mad Hatter‘s son, to stop an event that would lead to grave consequences.
